This week in Letterland we are learning about Kicking King and Lucy Lamp Lady. Practise saying these sounds and writing the letters
In maths this week we are thinking about subtraction. Today we talked about how minus, takeaway and subtract all mean the same. Think about this at home, count our lollies or chips and take them away by eating them! Practise hiding objects in a group, talk about how many you have hidden and how many are left.
The senior school are learning about plants and growing this term and are participating in the McCain Vege Patch programme. If you have any barcodes from McCain frozen vegetable products please bring them into school.
In Inquiry this term we are thinking about the earth, how it relies on the sun and moon, and where in the solar system we are. I am sure the children will come up with lots of questions and new things they would like to discover. We will be making a trip to the Star Dome on the 1st of September.
In R.E. we are learning about Holiness. Children will: ...be able to recognise that some places, times and ways of doing things are holy because they share in, and remind people of the holiness of God, ...develop an understanding of how God can be discoveed in the world which God created and gifted to people, to care and enjoy, ...recognise the parallels between everyday rituals and Christian rituals, and ... identify the Eucharist as a regular and special gathering time for God's people to pray and worship God who is holy.
George has life threatening allergies to egg, dairy and peanuts.
Alyssa has allergies to egg and peanuts.
It is important that we do not share food with anyone else. I also encourage the children to wash their hands after eating and to keep their hands and toys and classroom resources out of their mouths. Please help by reinforcing these things at home. While we do not have banned foods at our school, please think of alternatives where you can.

Prayer at the end of the day: At the end of the day we come to you Lord to say thank you. For the good we have done today, thank you. For anything we have done that has hurt others, we are sorry. Bless us as we go home, and may we bring Your love and peace to our families. Amen.
* Here are some ways you can help your child with their transition to school...
Always arrive before the bell - it is very unsettling to arrive late and also disturbs the other children
Name everything that comes to school, including school bags
Send a sturdy and easy to open lunch box
Work on tying shoelaces and school ties, and encourage independence when dressing
Encourage your child to take responsibility for his/her possessions, encourage independence at school and at home
Check your child's school bag and book bag daily for notices and homework
Ensure your child brings his/her book bag and school books every day
Establish a homework routine - 10-15 minutes is enough. You can expect a small reading book Monday to Thursday and R.E. Home Activities from time to time.
Talk about what has happened at school, highlight the enjoyable and positive experiences your child has had
Encourage your child to recognise and write their own name, know the names and sounds of letters, count to 10 or more and back and know the names of basic shapes and colours.
Practise skills like cutting, drawing, colouring and gluing
