A Daily Prayer For Your Confirmation

O God, I pray that you give me a right heart, that I may come to know you in Jesus. Lead me to know the sinfulness of my own heart, and your great love for me, in Christ Jesus. Help those who teach me, to give me the teaching I need. Grant that, on my Confirmation Day, I may be ready to give myself to be your faithful soldier and servant to my life’s end; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”

Student Voice – Book Recommendation

Hi St Michael’s Senior School readers,

As one of the Year 6 Library Leaders for 2018, I would like to share my thoughts on a fantastic book I just read.

It is called “A Very Unusual Pursuit” and was written by Catherine Jinks.

This book is about a girl called Birdie McAdams and an older man called Alfred. Together they are bogglers which are monster hunters that kill the monsters that are infesting London and eating children. Don’t worry it’s not as scary as it sounds. It is really interesting because it is set in 1870 which is a time period I didn’t know much about until I read this book. There is also a glossary at the back of the book with the meanings of some of old words you may not be familiar with so that is really helpful. It also has a great plot twist that you will never see coming at the end. I don’t want to spoil the story too much for you so that is all I am going to tell you. I really liked this story and I would recommend this book for anyone in Yr 5 and up.

Happy Reading!!

PTA News

Next Meeting – Tuesday 5 June 7 p.m.
All parents are invited to attend the next PTA meeting this Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the school library.  We are calling for new parents to join our very passionate enthusiastic team of parents.

Bake Sale – Thank you!
Thank you to all the SMCS families who contributed to the bake sale held after Mass on Saturday night! It was wonderful to see so many families and St Michael’s parishioners brave the cold weather to support the school. It really did emphasis what a beautiful school community we have.

There was an impressive and colourful array of delicious treats on display. The PTA sincerely thank you for supporting the evening by donating baking, purchasing yummy treats, dinner and for once again supporting the schools fundraising initiatives. The parents of St Michael’s raised over $1,400.  The allocation of this money will be voted upon at the meeting next week.

A big thank you to Marie Yovich and her wonderful team of volunteers for set up, displaying and selling on the night; the bake sale was a sell out.   This is the 6th year that Marie has rallied a team of volunteers to host the bake sale which is an extraordinary effort.  Thank you also to those families who waited patiently in the lines for dinner; Meg’s delicious pulled pork rolls were a big success and disappeared in a flash and the gourmet sausages were a huge hit again!

Thank you to Meg Crisostomo and Cassie Wooler for helping with catering and thank you to the helpers in the kitchen and those who stayed behind to clean up.   The PTA is extremely fortunate to have so many parents willing to help out. Thank you!

Gardening Working Bee – Saturday 16th June 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Uniform Shop
The uniform shop will be opened this Friday 1st June from 2.30 to 3.15 p.m.   The shop is also calling for donated stock as we are running a little low.   If you have any unwanted uniforms at home, please drop them to the school office or to the shop on Friday.  Thank you

Jammies in June

Kidz First Jammies in June program at Middlemore Hospital needs your support.  The St. Michael’s Catholic Church parish is collecting new and gently used pyjamas, slippers and dressing gowns for children aged 0-15.
There is a box in the church foyer and there will also be a collection box at the school office if you would like to donate.  These warm clothes are given to children at the hospital and in the community to help keep them warm and healthy during the cold winter.  Last year they gave out 20,000 pyjamas!
