Term 2 Newsletter 14 June 2018
Dear St Michael’s School Community,
This week Catherine, Georgina and I are attending the Catholic Schools Convention in Wellington. This happens every four years. Amy is Acting Principal while I am away.
Our student Councillors met with the people from Wise Cicada to help guide the choices of food for school lunches. We will let you know when students can buy their lunches online.
Working Bee – Saturday 16 June 11am – 3pm
If you are available please come along to help. We have just had all our playgrounds inspected and the small Junior Playground has been deemed unsafe, so this is on our list of things to do.
Lion King Update
The children have been working hard rehearsing their songs and lines and making costumes and props. We have also had many wonderful parents helping out too! Thank you to everyone that has helped out this far. With not long to go, make sure to get yourself tickets at the office – there are only tickets for the Matinee performance left.
Please ensure that your children bring into school any extra costume items they might need in preparation for full rehearsals in the next two weeks.
We are all looking forward to sharing our hard work with the community very soon!
A warm welcome to Isaia and Lafaele Elika, Poppy Thomson, and Vincent Yang and family who joined us last week.

Gardening Working Bee – THIS WEEKEND
Saturday 16th June 11am to 3pm (unless it is torrential rain, we will not cancel)
We have a very busy day planned on Saturday for our gardening working bee. Helpers are required to help dismantle the “old” junior playground, weed the garden behind the junior block, weed the garden behind the caring shed, tidy up paths, plant new plants etc. BYO – TOOLS (e.g. gloves, spades, clippers, garden saw, rakes, shovels etc.)
Please note there will be no access on Saturday from Bassett road. We will have a digger on site working on the steep area near the junior playground. Please use the Beatrice road entrance. Refreshments and sausage sizzle for all helpers. Please note there will be no supervision provided for children.
If you are planning on attending to help out please email [email protected] so we know how many to cater for.
Scholastic Book Orders online
The closing date for Scholastic Book orders is Friday 22 June. All orders and payments to be done online.
Disco Change of Date
The School Disco will NOT be held on Friday 27 July but will now take place on Friday 31 August from 5.00pm to 7.00pm in the school hall. This is due to several reasons but will also allow us to poll the students for their thoughts on a theme. Next week we will ask each class to vote on their top 3 themes. We are excited to hear their ideas and look forward to another fun SMCS event.
Lion King Production
The PTA will be hosting a beautiful Lion King themed bake sale at the Matinee on Wednesday 27 June. There will be beautifully decorated cakes, cake pops, slices, popcorn, lollies etc all in the lion king theme for sale. The PTA will then be selling theatre style refreshments and snacks at the evening show on Thursday 28 June from 5pm.
Next Meeting – Tuesday 31st July 7pm
All parents welcome
