SMCS – Basketball
Welcome to the SMCS basketball programme. This is a great way for your kids to fine-tune their skills, practice good sportsmanship and have fun. Kids in our programme learn about dribbling, shooting and guarding. They also learn the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in a sports team environment.
Our current Year 3/4 SMCS team is closed for next term but we are looking for Year 5/6 boys and girls who are keen to form a team and play against other schools in friendly competition. If we have enough children, we are looking to join the ABSL Competition at St Kentigern Boys School (82 Shore Road, Remuera) every Monday between 4:30pm to 6pm.
Kids are more than welcome to join our 8am, Tuesday sessions at the hall to have a go at a new sport and play some ball.

Touch Rugby 2018/19 Summer Season
It’s that time again… Touch Rugby summer registrations have opened for 2018/9 season. Last year we had 63 children registered playing for 6 teams. Ideally team numbers are minimum 7/8 with a maximum 10 players per team.
There are several important points to note so this is a long email. Please make sure you are aware of all the information before you register.
The season runs over Term 4 2018 and Term 1 2019 with a break over summer school holidays. http://www.sporty.co.nz/crjuniortouchrugby
2018/19 SEASON DATES
This year the turf at College Rifles is being ripped up and replaced so the term 4 games will be held at LISTON PARK, Michael’s Ave, Ellerslie. The term 1 games will be back at College Rifles.
First game is the Friday after Labour Weekend.
26th October – 7th December 2018 (7 Weeks) @ Liston Park
The season starts back on 15th February – 15th March 2019 (5 Weeks) @ College Rifles.
All games are Friday nights at set times. This season they are:
5:30pm: Year 1 & 2
6:00pm: Year 3 & 4
6:30pm: Year 5 & 6
The fee from the club is $475 per team. The amount payable per child will be the full cost of the season divided among the total number of St Michael’s players registered, not per team. This cost will include a player of the day trophy per team, treats for first game and any gear that needs to be replaced (last year each team was issued with a gear bag, two touch balls and a set of cones for practises and there is hardly any useable gear left from last season in the sports shed).
The youngest team is for year 1-2 students. We will not take registrations from year 0 students in the first instance. If you have an interested yr 0 child you can send their name in and they will go on a waiting list to be added to a year 1/2 team only if there are places. Priority will be given to those that have siblings registered at any age.
Players can play up a grade (but not down). If you have a very able year 2 or 4 child, e.g. they play winter rugby and wish to play them up a grade let us know.
Please use this Google Form link to register your family. If you have more than one child to register just use one form and list them in the spaces e.g. for names for us would read ‘Jonathan, Samuel’ and under year of student ‘5,2’ (or feel free to save me some time and fill in one form per child!)

We enjoyed our special guest readers, Mrs Phillips, Constable Cyrus, the Remuera librarians, the book author Melinda and Mrs Adamson.
The Book Character Parade is always a lovely way to end our wonderful week and thank you for all of the effort you put into your costumes. We think it was one of the best so far!
Thank you to the parents who helped out during the week, and to everyone who supported the Book Fair. We made a lot of money!
