A Christmas Prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson
Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
I wish you all peace and happiness at Christmas and throughout the New Year. I pray that God will protect you and your families over the Christmas break. To our Graduates and leavers, I hope you have a smooth transition to your new schools. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Times table challenge -2018
It was a clean sweep this year at THE XLR8 AFTER-SCHOOL CARE Times table Challenge!!! It was amazing to see not just the accuracy but the speed at which Sebastian Vargas -Herero answered the questions.
The participants had to answer correctly as well as quickly to the times table questions which were out of order and ranging from times 2 to times 20.
It was also wonderful to see the children from Yr2, Yr3, Yr 4 eagerly participate. The students at ASC had worked very hard the whole year through to prepare themselves for this challenge. The Juniors who participated were Anduin A, Maggie B, Max M & Louis B. The other participants were Santiago, Oliver White, Madeline Cheng, Flynn Harrison, Niko & Stavro Purdie. Good on you all, for participating in this tough challenge.
CONGRATULATIONS Sebastian VHT!! Really proud of your performance!!Enjoy the well-deserved prize of a Tablet. Well done to you too, Niko! Very good effort!
Looking forward to the challenge again, next year.
Sayonara Quadras (XLR8 Services Limited After School Care)
Well done to the Student Council leaders, Keira Evans, Dre Canapi, Flynn Harrison & Hiranya Fernando, who have redesigned directional signposts for our school! Thank you for your contributions to St Michael’s Catholic School!
The PTA would like to thank all families for their support of the PTA this year. It has been a wonderful year of fundraising and we are proud to say that we have raised over $44,000 for the school during 2018.
This has been due to the success of the following fundraising initiatives; pizza sales, iceblock sales, the second hand uniform shop, girls night out, lion king, cake stalls, knowledge-a-thon, the disco, the children’s artwork calendars, various raffles and school picnics, and the Cultural Festival.
From the money raised throughout this year the PTA has been able to purchase the following resources for our school:
- 6 New Marquees
- Refurbished the Senior toilet block
- Significant contribution to the hall debt
- Maths Resources
- New Readers
- The gardening project
- New shade sail for the senior playground
- Year 6 leavers dinner, student meal
- Allocation of knowledge-a thon funds to the reflective space being designed by the students in 2019
We would also like to take the time to acknowledge the contribution of those families leaving us this year and for their years of service to the PTA, especially Lane and Mike Molloy, Marie Yovich, and Gina Dignan. You have all played a significant role in the success of the PTA, and the existing committee thank you, we will miss you.
I would also like to personally thank the existing committee for their continued dedication and commitment to St Michael’s, the PTA consists of over 25 active members and we are also so fortunate to have parents across the whole school community volunteer throughout the year at our various events. St Michael’s is very lucky to have such committed, enthusiastic parents. Thank you!
The PTA have already commenced plans for next year and would like to share with you the Fundraising Event plan for 2019. Highlighted on this plan is also the dates for all PTA meetings during the year. ALL parents and friends of St Michael’s are encouraged and welcome to join this wonderful, dynamic group of enthusiastic parents.

The St Michael’s Family Tree
In 2010, contemporary artist and St Michael’s parent, Peata Larkin created a Maori design for the entrance wall in the foyer of the schools St Mary MacKillop hall. This beautiful piece of artwork features a stylized tree motif representing the St Michael’s family.
As you can see today in the foyer of the hall, the tile wall was a wonderful opportunity for our community to be a part of history by purchasing a named tile. This formed one of the vital fundraising initiatives to raise funds to build the existing hall.
Unfortunately, the tiles have not weathered well and the PTA with Peata’s help will be endeavouring to replace the existing tiles with ceramic tiles that will stand the distance of time. It was always Peata’s vision to have ceramic tiles, so now with the support of sponsors we will be able to replace the laminex tiles with ceramic tiles.
All tiles that were purchased in December 2009, will be replaced free of charge. Those families will be contacted over the coming months and will be provided the opportunity to put the years their family attended St Michael’s on their tile.
New families to the school and parish will now have the opportunity to purchase a named tile. By purchasing a tile your family will become a part of this unique artwork that brings together the past, present and future of our very special school community. This initiative will also help the school’s monetary contribution to the existing hall debt.
This new tile wall is going to be constructed by Peata in March 2019 and will be unveiled on Friday 5 April 2019 at a wonderful gala event called “A Night on the Tiles”.
We now invite all families to be a part of this unique opportunity that has presented itself and invite you to contact the PTA to enquire about purchasing a tile. Please email the PTA on firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, on behalf of the entire PTA I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Please stay safe and enjoy this wonderful time with your families. The PTA look forward to continuing working with the St Michael’s community in the new year to raise funds for our wonderful school.
God bless and heartfelt thanks!
