Dear St Michael’s School Community,

I hope you all had a good break with your families. I had a wonderful holiday with my family and the highlight was attending my niece’s wedding and celebrating it with my family. This time away helped me to feel more at peace. On Friday 19 July all our teachers attended an uplifting seminar by Fr Richard Leonard SJ on the topic of “Encountering Christ”.  One key message that I got from it was be grateful and thank God for everything we have.

Mufti Mania Friday 5 July For Doputz Primary School in Bourgainville – We raised $258.50,  thank you for your generosity.

Mufti Day next Friday 2nd August

Miss Kane’s sister Sarah is going to Africa in September with an organisation called EPIC to help build a school library. EPIC stands for Everyday People Initiating Change. This conscious, non-for-profit organisation’s goal is to show people of every race, age or social status that we all have the ability to change the world for the better every day in whatever ways we choose. This organisation specialises in bringing safe and clean drinking water to the developing world and at the same time supporting other aspects of community growth. EPIC takes on new projects every year in developing countries and this year, they are taking a trip to a village called Lupa Lama in Tanzania to help build a library. We are having a mufti day to raise money for this cause. Please give generously!

St James the Apostle’s Feast Day

“Gracious God, we remember before You today Your servant and apostle James, first among the Twelve to suffer martyrdom for the Name of Jesus Christ; and we pray that You will pour out upon the leaders of your Church that spirit of self-denying service by which alone they may have true authority among your people; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.” (

The St Michael’s Family Tree

Thank you to those families who purchased a family tile to be included in the St Michael’s Family Tree.

This beautiful artwork, being reconstructed by contemporary artist and St Michael’s parent, Peata Larkin, is going to feature a stylised tree motif representing the St Michael’s family and will take pride of place in the foyer of the St Mary MacKillop Hall.    The new ceramic tile wall will be reconstructed in September 2019 and there will be an unveiling ceremony not long after its completion date.

Once the final arrangements have been made for the unveiling, all families will receive a special invitation outlining the details.

We thank you for your continuing support of the schools fundraising initiatives and we look forward to unveiling the new tiled wall later in the year.

Liturgy of the Word with Children at St Michael’s – More leaders needed

Children’s Liturgy takes place most Sundays during 10 am Mass in school term time. It’s approximately 25 minutes during the first half of the Mass.
Our aim is for children to receive the Word of God at a level of understanding for their age and to discover its meaning in their lives, whilst giving parents/carers the opportunity to remain in the church and hear the Word of God themselves.
Preschoolers are welcome with a carer and primary school children can attend independently. (Of course, adults always welcome.) Our numbers are very low so we are in need of leaders and helpers for this Ministry. Please email Susan Woolley [email protected] or Deahna Barrington [email protected] if keen or would like to find out more information.

We are looking for people to help out once or at most twice a term,  You will be supported and teamed up with an experienced leader.  The children who attend really enjoy it and you would be helping them on their spiritual journey.

APPA Music Festival 3 Day Instrument Course

This is for accomplished instrument players in years 4 – 8 who wish to develop their musicianship skills in orchestral and band performance, and perform at the Auckland Town Hall as part of the wider APPA festival in November.

The students need parental commitment so they can attend the 3 Day Course at the venues below,  in the last week of term 3; plus there will also be a few Saturday or Sunday rehearsals, lots of practice at home and one rehearsal in the Town Hall which they also need to get their child to.   The venue for the practices is below:

Rehearsals at Cornwall Park School
Rehearsals at Avondale Intermediate School
Rehearsals at Parnell School
Registrations close on Friday, 30 August 2019

Registering online is easy!

By clicking on the button below, parents and caregivers are able to complete an online form and pay by credit card if they wish.  The registration form has been set up a bit differently this year to make it quicker to register their child(ren), so they will need to select the correct registration form based on their child’s musical ability.

They can also find this registration page on the APPA website under “Register” and “Events” on the website menu.
