Term 3 Newsletter 19 September 2019
Dear St Michael’s School Community,
It was sad to receive the news of the passing of Monsignor Brian Arahill. I often met up with him when I went to visit my Mum at the Little Sisters of the Poor. St. Michael’s will hold a Vigil Mass on Thursday 19th September at 7.30 p.m. and a Requiem Funeral Mass on Friday 20th September at 11.30 a.m. Our Year 6 Leaders will make a guard of honour for him.
SMCS will celebrate the Feast Day of St Michael the Archangel on Wednesday 25 September not on Friday 27 September
We will begin with Mass at 9:15 a.m. and it would be wonderful if you could celebrate this with us. Classes will then be doing activities that focus on this amazing saint.
Celebration of Paula Middleton’s Birthday on Wednesday 25 September
Multi colours for Mrs M!
On Wednesday 25 September, we would like to invite you to celebrate our beloved Mrs Middleton’s birthday.
Mrs M loved bright, cheerful clothes: colours, sequins, feathers – you name it!
All children are invited to wear mufti next Wednesday to brighten the school up in memory of Paula. We will also celebrate her at the Feast of St Michael at 9.15 a.m. in the Church. All are welcome!
Remuera Zone and the Catholic Cross Country
Congratulations to all the students who participated in both of these events. It is great to see your determination and commitment in these events. Well done Eva Houghton who came first in Year 6 in the Remuera Zone.
School Rosary Group: Held on Thursdays at lunch times. Encourage your students to join.

Monsignor Brian Arahill’s favourite quote from the Sacred Scriptures
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full”. (John 10:10).
“Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
Manaaki ki te Atua,

Thanks also to all of the parents who helped at the morning running groups and to Stephanie van Oijen for her wonderful artwork on the Runners’ Cards, posters and certificates. A huge thanks also, to Caroline Harris, for her fabulous organisation of this event!
Calendar Art Fundraiser
This year’s Calendar Art Fundraiser is now up and running! The children and teachers have been working hard on their artworks and copies of these are now up on display in the classrooms. Order forms should have come home for each child, with their name and individual ordering codes on them. Please look out for the forms and keep them in a safe place as you will need the codes to place your orders.
The childrens’ artworks can be printed on to a variety of products for you to buy from Kids Art Works, including calendars, diaries, greeting cards, sketch pads and mouse pads. The products look amazing and make great presents for family and friends or lovely mementoes for you at home. All products are priced at $15 each; there are samples at the School Office should you wish to look at them.
This year the ordering process has been made even easier for you, as all purchases will be made online. Instead of bringing the order forms back to school, you will simply use your child’s individual ordering code to go on to the Kids Art Works website at www.kidsartworks.com view the artwork, select your purchases and make the payment straight away.
Orders are now open and will close on Monday 30th September at 9 a.m.
If you have any questions, or need a replacement ordering code, please contact Caroline Harris at [email protected] or on Mobile: 021-578-070.
Book Week – October 2019
