Dear St Michael’s School Community,

I hope you all had a lovely long weekend with your families.

Staffing Update

After seven years at our school, Amy Kane has decided to step out of her comfort zone and teach at another Catholic School. Amy is an amazing teacher and we are very sorry to see her go but we understand her reasons for doing so. We have employed three new Teachers for 2020: Isabella Anderson, Sophie Dodd and Bethan Rush.

The PTA needs your help!  Planning for 2020 is underway…

In 2019 the PTA has successfully raised over $34,000 with the help of our wonderful community and dedicated parent volunteers.  Through a range of successful events and fundraisers we are proud to have created a number of meaningful experiences and services for our students and community.   To name a few: the inaugural Run-a-thon, the ever popular School Disco, social evenings for our mums and dads, the Scholastic Book Fair, Calendar Art products, Grandparents Day, the Second Hand Uniform Shop, pizza lunches and so on!

This money has been put back into our school across a range of areas this year, including maths and reading resources, the Reflection Area, the lower field project, a new PA system and air conditioning units.

At the end of this year we will be fare-welling some of our long standing PTA members and are looking for new volunteers from the school family to get involved in 2020 and help make St Michael’s the special community that it is.  Without your help we won’t be able to put on so many special events for our children and caregivers or provide services such as the Uniform Shop and pizza lunches.

We appreciate how busy life can be but there are many roles that do not take up much time.  Enjoy the rewards of being involved and getting to know your community – your children will love to see you engaged with their school life.

In 2020, as well as the important role of Class Reps, we are looking for people to join the PTA and assist with the following:

  • PTA Secretary
  • Second Hand Uniform Shop helpers (sales assistants and sewers)
  • Scholastic Books Coordinator
  • Helpers to maintain the SMCS gardens
  • Purchaser of ice-blocks and kitchen supplies
  • Assisting with planning/organising special functions such as the Family Fun Day and social functions for our parents and caregivers

Please consider how you can help us and the school; if you are interested or would like to know more about any of these roles, please email Caroline Harris (matthewandcaroline@xtra.co.nz) or Emma Houghton (eahoughton21@gmail.com) or come along to the next PTA meeting on Tuesday 26th November at 7 p.m!

PTA Meeting

Our last PTA Meeting for this year is Tuesday 26th November at 7 p.m. in the staff room.  All parents welcome.
