Dear St Michael’s School Community,

We have a wonderful start to the year with all our new students settling in well. The Year 6 Camp at Hunua was very successful and enjoyed by all.

Our Staff attended a beautiful Dedication Mass for catholic Education. It was celebrated by Bishop Patrick Dunn and the Auxiliary Bishop Michael Gielen. Jessica Jost received a certificate for two years teaching in a Catholic School.

Professional Development: This year Chris King is facilitating Cultural Responsiveness in Mathematics. He will be running staff meetings and will be working alongside teachers in their classrooms on a Tuesday to help implement a new way of teaching Mathematics. He will also facilitate a parent meeting later in the Term

Welcome to the following new students and families: Lucioni family, Pinto-Alegria family and Fougere family.

And Congratulations to the van Oijen family of the birth of their baby girl.

Learning Evening and Meet the Teachers – Monday 24 February – 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

At the 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. there will be two identical sessions where teachers will share information that is specific for their Year groups. E.g. Learning expectation, learning targets, timetables, homework, and new initiative. Children can attend the sessions with you or they may play in the playground (we will have teachers supervising). The meetings rooms are as follows: Room 2 for Students in Rooms 1 & 2; Room 4 for Students in Room 3 & 4; Room 5 for Students in Rooms 5 & 6; Room 7 for Students in Rooms 7 & 10; and Room 8 for Students in Room 8 & 9.

Building Community Mass and Fun Day Sunday 01 March 10 a.m.

Students will meet in the Parish Centre at 9:40 a.m. and the Choir will go straight to the Church. Students will be in mufti as it is a fun day. This will be a great way to build our community spirit. Please read the PTA blurb for more information. There will be no parking available on the school driveways/courtyards that day (including before 10 a.m. Mass).

NO PARKING BY THE CHURCH – A DROP OFF ONLY ZONE

This is a Health and Safety issue as students are currently being dropped off on Beatrice Road and they have to walk between parked/ moving cars. Please use Bassett Road if you are going to park your car. Fr Tony and I are very concerned about this and we will be seeking advice from the Police and Auckland Council.

Encountering CHRIST

Ash Wednesday Mass – Please join us at Mass at 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday 26 February.

A Prayer of Thanks

“Thank you heavenly Father for the gift of life. We pray that we will always listen to your call and work for the good of all. We ask your blessing on our beautiful school and that you will protect and watch over us always,Through Christ Our Lord, Amen”.
