Dear St Michael’s School Community,
I hope that you all enjoyed the long weekend, and were able to get out and about to support our local businesses.
It has been wonderful to see how adaptable and resilient our children have been under the current circumstances. It is clear that they have been well prepared for their return to school, and it has been wonderful to see their increased independence particularly at drop-off time.
Thank you to those families who filled out the Distance Learning Survey. We will be analyzing these results over the next couple of weeks. There was strong support shown through the results for a continuation of the Reading Eggs programme. This is now available for all children to use both at home and at school.
Week 9 and Gate Monitoring
Next week is Week 9 and our fourth week out of Level 3. We will be continuing to transition our school back to “normal”.
Please note the following changes:
- Beatrice Rd will now be monitored from 8.30 a.m. to allow safe drop-off for children, and ease traffic for this area.
- The Bassett Rd entrance will no longer be monitored from 8.15 a.m., however an adult will be overseeing Road Patrol as usual, from 8.30 a.m.
- There will no longer be a 2.30 p.m. pick up time, however Miss Anderson and Miss Westwood will continue to bring the Room 1 and 2 children up to the appropriate gates at 2.50 p.m. to ease congestion around the school.
- The school timetable will return to normal:
|8.55 a.m.||Block 1|
|11.00 a.m.||Morning Tea|
|11.30 a.m.||Block 2|
|1.55 p.m.||Block 3|
|2.55 p.m.||School Ends|
Contact tracing will still be in place under Level 1, so please remember that you must sign in either via the app, or manually outside Room 1 or at the School Office whenever you enter the site.
Increased hygiene measures will continue. Children and Staff will be sanitizing their hands when they enter and exit the classrooms, and commonly used surfaces will be cleaned regularly. Please ensure that you are keeping children home if they show any signs of being unwell.
Feasibility of Remuera Zone Year 5/6 Sports exchange games for Term 3
Covid-19 has complicated a lot of events lately and sports exchange is one of these. Now that a move to Alert Level 1 is looking likely, the Remuera Zone cluster is looking into whether sports exchanges can go ahead in Term 3.
Should the opportunity to participate in Year 5/6 Sports exchange games on a Tuesday afternoon arise, we are considering the feasibility of our involvement in this. This year it will be up to each school to coordinate the sports played and the venues. One of the key problems for the past few years is that we have struggled to find sufficient transport help.
If exchanges go ahead, children will trial for a spot on a team as numbers are limited. The remainder of the senior school will participate in sport at school each Tuesday afternoon. If things proceed, we would be likely having 2 soccer teams (total 24 students) and 2 netball teams (total 18 students).
If sports exchange games go ahead, then in order to proceed, families of children that are selected for a team will be rostered to help with transport.
If we do not get sufficient transport, students will be trained at school and participate in the Winter Field Day tournament to conclude the winter season instead.
