Dear St Michael’s School Community,

With only two weeks of Term 2 to go, we feel so lucky that our country is under Level 1. It has been wonderful to see the children settled back into their classrooms, and to observe all of the progress they have made since school reports were sent out at the end of last term.

In Week 12, we will be hosting Parent Teacher interviews. These are a chance to catch up with your child’s teacher to discuss their learning and progress. Please follow the instructions listed in the section below to book in with your child’s teacher via the Skool Loop app.

Under Level 1, we are able to host school assemblies again, and we will start these off next week with our Swimming Sports Prize-giving. You are welcome to join us in the School Hall on Wednesday 24 June (from 2.15 p.m.) to celebrate.

Finally, I celebrated the arrival this week of my two beautiful new grandchildren in Papamoa! Thank you to everyone for your prayers for their safe arrival.

Staffing Changes

Sadly Chris King is leaving our school as he has won a Deputy Principal job at St Theresa’s School in Invercargill. We wish Chris all the best with his new job and his move to the South Island. His last day is Friday 21 August, and we are currently advertising his position.

Philippa Barling will be returning to St Michael’s for three days each week from Monday 10 August. We know how much the children are looking forward to welcoming her back!

Reminders regarding Alert Level 1

  • We are no longer required to keep a contact tracing register, but will continue with the usual practice of having a visitor and an attendance register.
  • Physical distancing is not a requirement but is encouraged when you are around people you don’t know.
  • There are no restrictions on numbers at gatherings or on physical activities including cultural and sporting activities, practices and events.
  • Stay home if you are sick (Go to the doctor if you or your child have cold or flu symptoms).
  • Continue to regularly wash and dry your hands, and sneeze and cough into elbows.
  • Regularly disinfect shared surfaces.

School Pick Up and Drop Off

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring our children arrive and depart safely from the school grounds. A reminder please that if you are walking your child down into the school grounds, you must part at Bassett Road, and not on Beatrice Road.

When you are using the Bassett Road gate to drop off or collect children, please ensure that you are using the pedestrian crossing. It is important that we are modelling the correct procedures for children at all times.

Please be respectful and refrain from parking over driveways and on yellow lines thereby obstructing visibility for other drivers and of our precious children.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher interviews will be held on:
Monday 29 June (appointments available from 1.30 – 5.30 p.m.) and
Wednesday 1 July (appointments available from 3.30 – 7.30 p.m.)

Interviews are 15 minutes long, and can be booked through the Skool Loop app from Monday 15 June. Please ensure bookings are completed by Sunday 28 June, in order for teachers to prepare.

If you have any problems making or editing a booking, please contact Genevieve in the School Office.

You are able to collect your child from 1.00 p.m. on this day. Supervision will be available for children from 1.30 – 2.55 p.m. on Monday 29 June. All remaining children will be supervised in the School Hall. Please note that due to smaller class numbers (and the need for less interview slots), Rooms 1 and 2 will stay in class until 2.55 p.m. on Monday.

We look forward to meeting with you to talk about your child’s progress, and to discuss the different ways in which you are able to support their learning at home.

Oh Lord Jesus Christ, to Your most Sacred Heart.
Only look upon me, then do what Your love inspires. Let Your Sacred Heart decide.
I count on You. I trust in You. I throw myself on Your mercy. Lord Jesus, You will not fail me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Your kingdom come.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked You for many favors, but I earnestly implore this one.
Take it, place it in Your open Heart.

Jammies for GI

Miss Jost and the Outreach Leaders are collecting children’s pyjamas for Glen Innes School through the Jammies for GI initiative. They are aiming to donate 100 pairs of pyjamas by Friday 26 June. If you are able to help out, please send a pair of new pyjamas to school, and Miss Jost will deliver these to Small Miracles Preschool, who are coordinating the drive. Boys and girls pyjamas in Sizes 10 and 12 are in particular demand.

Thank you in advance for your support!
