Dear St Michael’s School Community,
Students have been learning about Matariki. During Matariki we celebrate our unique place in the world. We give respect to the whenua on which we live, and admiration to our mother earth Papatüänuku. Throughout Matariki we learn about those who came before us. Our history. Our family. Our bones. Matariki signals growth. It’s a time of change. It’s a time to prepare, and a time of action. During Matariki we acknowledge what we have and what we have to give. Matariki celebrates the diversity of life. It’s a celebration of culture, language, spirit and people. Matariki is our Aotearoa Pacific New Year.

Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher interviews will be held on:
Monday 29 June (appointments available from 1.30 – 5.30 p.m.) and
Wednesday 1 July (appointments available from 3.30 – 7.30 p.m.)
Interviews are 15 minutes long, and can be booked through the Skool Loop app from Monday 15 June. Please ensure bookings are completed by Sunday 28 June, in order for teachers to prepare.
If you have any problems making or editing a booking, please contact Genevieve in the School Office.
You are able to collect your child from 1.00 p.m. on Monday. Supervision will be available for children from 1 p.m. – 2.55 p.m. on Monday 29 June. All remaining children will be supervised in the School Hall. Please note that due to smaller class numbers (and the need for less interview slots), Rooms 1 and 2 will stay in class until 2.55 p.m. on Monday.
We look forward to meeting with you to talk about your child’s progress, and to discuss the different ways in which you are able to support their learning at home.
Safety of Students and Parking
We have been receiving a number of complaints from residents of Bassett Road due to parents dropping off students in their driveway or parking over their driveway. While I was on duty I saw a number of people parking on the yellow lines, which makes it unsafe for us on crossing duty. There were a number of tickets given out on Beatrice Road for cars doing this ($60.00). Please be a good example to your children.
Beatrice Road Pick Up – Drop off and Pick Up Only – No Parking
Before School: Please drop your child off to walk down the stairs to the right of the Church. If you wish to bring your child down to school, you must park at Bassett Rd to do so.
After School: Please collect your child from in front of the church. A member of our staff will help your child to reach your car safely. Children are not to walk among the traffic to cars without an adult present.
