Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
I hope you all enjoyed Labour Weekend, I enjoyed catching up with my family.
Staff Changes for 2020
Sadly we will be farewelling Beth Rush as she is going to be working as a specialised teacher in St Cuthbert’s Learning Centre. Beth has been an asset to our school but we understand that she is following her passion. The Board of Trustees have employed Sophie Dodd (who is currently in Room 6) as a permanent teacher at our school. Philippa Barling is coming back from her maternity leave and will be teaching Year 4 in Room 10. She will share this position with Kate Smit.
This has been very successful and a big thank you to Charlotte for organising this event, thanks also to her many helpers. All are welcome to come to the Book Parade at 9:15am in the Hall. Students will be dressed up as their favourite book character.
Summer Uniform and Hats
Students should be wearing their summer uniform and sandals now. In term 4 students are required to wear a hat when they are playing outside.
If you are able to help with this event please email Charlotte Bagnall email@example.com More details will be posted on the Class Dojo.
Lock Down Exercise
St Michael’s Catholic School engaged the services of an independent company, Harrison Tew, who specialise in emergency management planning for schools. The procedures allow us to respond safely and quickly to a range of circumstances. The training consists of a low key but detailed approach to potential threats and has been successfully implemented in hundreds of schools throughout New Zealand. The lock down exercise is scheduled for next week and in order to keep it as real-life as possible, families will receive notification by way of email and on the school website.
Please ensure contact details are current by updating changes via the office.
We are looking forward to the upcoming School Parish Mass next Saturday 7 November at 5pm. Can students please wear summer uniform and gather in the parish centre by 4.40pm. The choir can go straight up to the Church to meet Miss Brown.
School Assemblies hosted by:
Senior School: Wednesday 4 November (2.10pm)
Junior School: Wednesday 18 November (2.00pm)

Manaaki ki te Atua,
Helena Coyle, Lilly Kerr and Madeleine Snell are in the U10 Ellerslie Girls Red team and have competed in two tournaments recently. In the school holidays the team travelled to Taupo to compete in the McCartney Invitation Tournament which has teams from throughout the North Island competing across the last weekend of school holidays (Friday through to Sunday). The girls started the tournament slowly with a loss but then went through the rest of the three days undefeated, winning their semi final and final to be crowned Tournament Champions.
The following weekend the team competed in another tournament, the Norwest Tournament in Kumeu. No Ellerslie team had previously made it through to playoffs of this tournament. The girls made it through to the semi final and the backed up their great work in Taupo by winning a tense penalty shootout to make it through to the final.
The final was against the well respected Easter Suburbs Gold team, which again went to penalties that unfortunately went Easter Suburb’s way for Ellerslie U10 Girls Red to be crowned runners up.
Helena, Lilly and Madeleine should be very proud of what they achieved across the two weekends! Well Done girls!
Scholastic Book Fair
Tuesday morning 27th October – Friday morning 30th October, 8:30-9:30am and 2:30-3:30pm each day.
Come along to the Book Fair next and buy some books for Christmas! This is our biggest fundraiser for the school library where a percentage of sales is donated back to the school. If you would like to purchase a book specifically for the library, this is possible too. Talk to one of the helpers at the desk and they will tell you what you need to do.
Thanks for the great response for help to run the sales for this!
