Cluny Farewell

The parish is hosting a function to mark the departure of the Cluny Sisters from Remuera after 72 years in the parish. The function will be held on Sunday 13 December starting at 3.00pm. Parishioners who wish to attend should email or phone the parish office to make a booking.

Christmas Giving Tree

The traditional tree goes up in St. Michael’s church on Saturday 29 November. This is an excellent way for families in the St. Michael’s school community to show practical concern for the underprivileged.

Christmas is always a difficult time for those who are out of work and unable to provide for their families. This year things are expected to be worse than ever.

As you shop for your own family Christmas why not put aside something for others, especially children, who also are hoping for a sign of love, comfort and support this season.

The gifts you leave under the tree will be distributed to the needy by St. Vincent de Paul. Please take some cards and give generously again this year. Thank you.

School Masses

    • 28/11/20 – Jesse Tree Mass at 5pm All Families to Attend;
    • 03/12/20 – Rooms 1 and 9; 07/12/20 – Thanksgiving End of Year Mass at 6pm

The Jesse Tree

The Jesse tree helps us connect the custom of decorating Christmas trees to the events leading to Jesus’ birth. The Jesse tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of King David. We adorn a Jesse tree with illustrated ornaments that represent the people, prophesies, and events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The ornaments of the Jesse tree tell the story of God in the Old Testament, connecting the Advent season with the faithfulness of God across four thousand years of history.

“Lord God, Our hearts long for your coming. We wait to joyfully welcome you.
Amen. (https://cathfamily.org/the-jesse-tree-prayer/

SMCS Football Coordinators required

We’re on the hunt for two parents volunteers to take over from Paula and Julia to manage SMCS Football next year. Ideally parents with children in the junior school, but we’re open to anyone.  It’s a great way to make new friends or join forces with an existing friend.
If your children love Football this is a great way to give back to the school.  The role includes
  • allocating teams
  • communication between team managers and coaches
  • distributing & collecting team bags and uniforms
  • coordinating with Ellerslie club
  • communicating with SMCS re practice days

(95% of this can be done at home so it’s ok for working parents too).

We are lucky at SMCS to have the relationship that we do with Ellerslie and our school teams are a great way to meet other families and friends.  It would be a great shame to hand this back to Ellerslie club to manage.  Please contact Paula and Julia if you are interested or have any questions smcsfootball@gmail.com
