Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

The Jesse Tree Mass was such a joyous occasion thank you Georgina for organizing this and Lauren for taking the choir. Our Year 6 Graduates led the Jesse Tree Liturgy in such a respectful and reverent manner. Thank you to the PTA for organizing the Christmas fair after the Mass.

Graduation Dinner

This was a wonderful event and I was so proud of the way each student got up and gave a speech about their highlights of the year. Thank you to Georgina and her team for organizing this event. Also a huge thank you to to Peata for the Artwork that all students received.

Christmas Giving Tree

The traditional tree goes up in St. Michael’s church on Saturday 29 November. This is an excellent way for families in the St. Michael’s school community to show practical concern for the underprivileged.

Christmas is always a difficult time for those who are out of work and unable to provide for their families. This year things are expected to be worse than ever.

As you shop for your own family Christmas why not put aside something for others, especially children, who also are hoping for a sign of love, comfort and support this season.

The gifts you leave under the tree will be distributed to the needy by St. Vincent de Paul. Please take some cards and give generously again this year. Thank you.

Cluny Farewell

The parish is hosting a function to mark the departure of the Cluny Sisters from Remuera after 72 years in the parish. The function will be held on Sunday 13 December starting at 3.00pm. Parishioners who wish to attend should email or phone the parish office to make a booking.

Advent Prayer

“God of power and mercy open our hearts in welcome. Remove the things that hinder us from receiving Christ with joy so that we may share his wisdom and become one with him when he comes in glory, for he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. (https://www.xavier.edu/jesuitresource/online)

St Michael’s Christmas Market

Thank you to everyone for their support of the Christmas Market last Saturday evening and special thanks to the Kirton Family for sponsoring the very popular sausage sizzle!  It was a lovely evening and we had an amazing selection of Christmas treats on sale.  With the help of our generous community we successfully raised just over $1,500.

Class Rep Role 2021

The PTA are currently planning for 2021- a vital role is Class Rep which is the liaison between the PTA and the families in your class.  Ideally 2 parents would share this role per class.  As we will not know what classes the children will be in next year, we require several volunteers in order to cater for each class.

What does being a class rep involve?

You will be invited to the PTA meetings (usually held once or twice a term on a Monday evening at 7pm in the School Library) and it would be wonderful to have your input when you are able to make it.

Weekly Email Summarizing Class Events – In the junior school this is usually done weekly; in the senior school information can be sent as needed.

Pizza and Ice-block Fridays – Each class is responsible for sourcing 3 volunteers to sell pizza and ice-blocks once a term during Friday lunch time.   The roster will be sent out each term.

Pastoral Care – You will need to be on the look-out for opportunities to organize pastoral care and social activities for your class. This might just mean if a new family comes to the school teeing up a couple of parents to have a coffee together.

Social Event – Ideally, you should organize a social event for Term 1.  You might combine with another class or have with just yours.  This might be either with families such as a picnic, or an event at a local pub for adults only etc.

Are you in a position to be able to sponsor something on the day? Do you have any contacts for food/drink that the PTA may be able to speak to? Please contact the PTA on [email protected] if you are able to help in this way. We look forward to hearing from you!

There will be the incredibly popular Jolly Jars for the Tombola again so start collecting jars and things to put in them now!  More information about this to follow!!

PTA Meeting

We have had our last meeting for the year – we look forward to meeting up again next year!

Last Saturday, some of SMCS students performed in the National Youth Theatre’s  “Keeping the Lights On” held at the Aotea Centre. This was a variety show to celebrate fifteen years of productions for NYT as well as to celebrate the best of theatre, youth and the arts.

Congratulations to Isaac Houghton who performed  “ Alone in the Universe” from “Seussical” and to Anika Cruz  who also performed “ You’ll be back “ from “ Hamilton”.

Congratulations also to our other SMCS students who performed as part of the ensemble Erin Cortez, Aidan Cruz, Rebecca Houghton and Sabine Crisostomo. Well done!
