I hope you all had a lovely break over Christmas and took some time to relax after our unusual year. I had a lovely Christmas with our family, especially our 8 Grandchildren (pictured above).
Learning Evening and Meet the Teachers – Wednesday 17 February – Two Sessions: 6pm and 6:30pm
At 6pm and 6:30pm there will be two identical sessions where teachers will share information that is specific for their year groups. E.g. Learning expectations, learning targets, timetables, and home learning. Children can attend the sessions with you. The meeting rooms are as follows: Room 2 for Students in Rooms 1 & 2; Room 3 for Students in Room 3 & 4; Room 5 for Students in Rooms 5 & 6; Room 7 for Students in Rooms 7 & 10; and Room 8 for Students in Room 8 & 9.
Health and Safety
Please continue to use the QR codes when entering our school. Students will be washing/sanitizing their hands before and after eating (there are visual signs with the correct procedures of washing hands). Please keep your children at home if they are sick (colds, cough, flu etc).

Chess Demonstration – Tuesday 9 February at 1:10pm in the Hall – all students welcome
Maxim Volk from Chess Power is going to run a Chess Open Day at our school. They teach the students all about Chess, the history of the game, the rules and some basic strategies. The students then get to play games with each-other applying their new skills.
Motorised Model Building Demonstration – Thursday 11 February at 3pm in the Hall
Join the Bricks 4 Kidz Motorised LEGO® Model Building class and experience the hands-on fun of our STEAM programme. Develop problem solving skills and an appreciation for how things work. Classes will be held on Monday after school in the Hall. To enrol click on the link below:

The Cancer Society of New Zealand recommends all students and staff wear hats that provide good shade to the face, back of the neck and ears when outdoors. Next year all students are to wear the school uniform sunhat. Students are in school when ultraviolet radiation levels are at their peak. Caps do not provide the necessary protection from the sun.

Family Fun Day is a cash-free event. We will be operating a token system. Second Hand Uniform Shop
Open this Friday, 5th February, from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. We have most summer items in stock, including sun hats! Pay by cash or online payment.
We are also in need of some helpers to assist in the shop this year – the shop opens two or three times a term on a Friday afternoon. Please email [email protected] if you would like to join the team!
Scholastic Book Club
This Friday, 5th February your child will come home with a copy of the latest Scholastic Lucky Book Club brochure. It’s a new year, and a GREAT time for students to kick-start their reading habits and routines!
There are many benefits of Book Club, including:

- Quality publishing–access to the best in children’s publishing from bestselling authors and illustrators.
- Rewards that go back to the school to buy more books and educational resources!

- Download the LOOP App (this is a different LOOP from the Skool LOOP App!) and follow the prompts.
It can be a bit daunting setting it all up for the first time, so here is an easy to follow guide how to do it:

Each year remember to log on to your account and update your Child/Children’s Year Level and Classroom to ensure that ordered books will be delivered to the correct place!
Orders close two weeks after the brochures come out – Issue 1 orders must be completed online by Friday, February 19th. Books are delivered to the school the week after orders close, and will be handed out to your children in their classrooms once they have been sorted.
Please do not hand in any orders or money to the Office, all orders must be placed online via the website, or through the LOOP App.
Our School benefits hugely from your Book Club orders. Rewards points are earned through our spend, and these points are gifted back to the Teachers and Library at St Michaels School throughout the Year.
