Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure

The staff and students were very happy to come back to school. Thank you Parents and Caregivers who helped your children last week to attend zoom lessons and complete set tasks. We know this would have been a challenge for you balancing your own commitments and homeschooling.

BOT News Update

What a start to 2021! We are half way through our first term and already we have experienced two lockdowns. While this isn’t the start to the year that any of us would have wanted, I am pleased by how the students, staff and parents have all reacted to these snap lockdowns. The learning packs that the staff worked quickly to pull together have been a big success and I wanted to thank Ann and the team for all their hard work putting these together.

Luckily the annual Year 6 school camp was able to go ahead and it was a huge success again this year. It is something that the students all look forward to as it provides them with a number of challenging experiences. I was able to attend camp this year and I was impressed by how brave the students and how they all supported each other through each activity. Thank you to Georgina van Schaijik and Louise Spora for your hard work organizing a great few days.

The Board of Trustees had our first meeting for the year a couple of weeks ago where I was re-elected Chair and Mark Twomey was elected Deputy Chair for 2021. We took the time at our first meeting to remind ourselves of the responsibilities of being on the SMCS Board and ensuring that we keep focused on our core purpose of ensuring all SMCS students receive the best possible education.

Over the summer holidays we had the drainage and irrigation work carried out on the lower playing field. While the work hasn’t quite been finished it is pleasing that we have been able to improve the playing surface and ensure that it can be used all year around.

Nga mihi,
Jon Williams
BOT Chair
