Nothing is more important than your family
We had two very successful events this week. It was great to see such a high attendance at both the Disco and the Reflective Area gathering. Thank you to everyone who was involved in these events. A special thanks to Giovanna and the PTA for all their hard work for the Disco and to John Shaw, Anna Hechanova-Lu, Sarah and Ree for being instrumental in the planning of the Parish/School Social Function.

Alert Level 1 – Stay at Home if Sick
Winter is upon us and this is the time where people can get ill with colds and flu. Please if your child is sick keep them at home in order to protect other students from getting sick. This will also help with the spread of COVID-19.

Teachers Paid Union Meetings
On Thursday 24 June (Week 8), teaching staff who are NZEI members will be attending paid union meetings as part of the Primary Teachers Collective Agreement with some attending in the morning and others in the afternoon. The purpose of these meetings is for teachers to discuss the priorities for the renegotiation of their collective agreement in 2022. Issues being discussed, such as school staffing levels, directly impact on the education of your children. These meetings are a critical component of the negotiation process and it is the legal right of all members to attend a meeting and have their say. While there will be some impact on the usual school programme that day, we have adjusted the programme to minimise disruption, and the school will remain open. However we are encouraging children to be collected by 12.30pm. All children who remain at school will be supervised in the Hall. If your child requires supervision, please email Genevieve at [email protected] Thank you in advance for your support.

Manuia tele le aso (Have a blessed day)
Room 9 is on Pizza duty this week. Thank you Room 9 Parents!
We would like to thank everyone for your patience as we review the pizza/ice block Friday process.
- Could you please make sure that your children have the correct change, if possible.
- Confirming with them in the morning how many slices they are going to order would also be very helpful – to ensure that # of slices ordered early in the day is as close as possible to those picked up at lunchtime!
Please note – regular size ice blocks are now back in stock (YAY!) so all lemonade ice blocks are back to $2 each.
School Disco – 28th May
The PTA would like to say a huge Thank you to Gio Penna, Sarah Benson, Ree George and the wider PTA for all of the planning and preparatory work that went into the school disco.
Please see below for a message from Gio…
What an amazing evening this was! We were very pleased to see so many families there, having fun together and making memories. Everyone really upped their game and we saw some incredible costumes this year! There were lots of activities and food to be enjoyed by everyone. DJ Mike Cruz once again did a brilliant job in keeping everyone dancing by playing the most recent hits (and some classics too!).
Thank you to Fatima Valdez, who donated water bottles, Anjelica Mercader for the choc chip cookies and Lauren Kendrick for donating chocolate bars for the night. A big thank you must go to Steph Van Oijen who designed the beautiful posters and flyers.
Also, a big thanks to our volunteers on the night: Brendhan Fitzgerald, Laura Thomson, Deahna Barrington, Emma Houghton, Christine Grace Alejo, Josephine Hazel, Maria Hancock, Blossoms Cruz, Kathya Davis Fuentes, Ana Waalkens, Emily Lee, Venus Itoh, Hayley Murray, Mathew Croad, Marija Slavich, Paloma Vivanco-Coutts, Fiona Twomey, Regina Cortez, Katleen Van den Branden, Emma Brannam, Rod Penna, Emma Arceo, Luciana Sasdelli, Mike Angland, Lucy Carter and Denc Fong.
Below are some of the photos from the night…
School Mass and Blessing of the new Reflective area
Thank you to all of those people who helped on Sunday at the Blessing and Social Event.
This was a great event that was really well attended by so many of the Parish and School community. Although the weather report wasn’t great prior to the day, the sun shone and the rain stayed away. This meant we could stand outside on the Kings Lawn and bless our special Reflective Area, before heading inside to the school Hall to partake in the hot dogs, pancakes and pizza that the Parish had kindly organized for us in advance.
We are hoping that this is the first of many social events that bring together the Parish and School Communities over the years. It is fitting that the first event was held in honour of a special area that we hope many will use in times of reflection
We have sent our thanks through to the members of the Parish Council who organised the event and hosted us so well.
Girls Night Out at the Movies
We are probably going to run this event in Term 3 as there’s not a great choice of movies coming up in the next few weeks, so more details to follow nearer the time.
Yummy fruit sticker collecting
Keep collecting those stickers to earn fun sports equipment rewards for the school. Each sticker is with 1 point and each bag tag is worth 10 points.
Please place completed sheets into the PTA box (outside the PTA cupboard in the senior school) or give them directly to Mrs Barrington.
Last year SMCS collected close to 6000 points, which equated to over $700 of playground and sports gear.
