Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
“Mā mua ka kite a muri, Mā muri ka ora a mua”.
Those who lead give sight to those who follow.
Those who follow give life to those who lead.
We are so lucky to be able to go to shows and concerts. I have booked to take my grandchildren to see The Lion King and I am hoping that I get to see one of our wonderful Year 6 student, Erin Cortez, perform. Georgina van Schaijik went last week and saw Erin and she loved it so much she is going again.
First Holy Communion Mass – Sunday 4 July at St Michaels at 2pm

Senior Playground for Years 4 to 6 Reminder For After School
If your child is in Years 0 to 3 then they can only use the Junior Playground. Most of the injuries we have had on the Senior playground happened after school.
Alert Level 1 – Stay at Home if Sick
Winter is upon us and this is the time where people can get ill with colds and flu. Please if your child is sick keep them at home in order to protect other students from getting sick. This will also help with the spread of COVID-19.

Prayer to St. Thomas the Apostle, for Faith
“Almighty and ever living God, who didst strengthen thine apostle Thomas with sure and certain faith in thy Son’s resurrection: Grant us so perfectly and without doubt to believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, that our faith may never be found wanting in thy sight; through him who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.” (https://statucson.org/prayers-to-st-thomas-the-apostle).
Manaaki ki te Atua,
St Michael’s will have a Mufti Day on Friday 9 July!
Please bring a gold coin donation.
Since 2007, Catholic schools around New Zealand have held a special mufti day each year to support small school communities around the Pacific.
For Mufti Mania in 2021 we are supporting a school in West Papua called Kristus Raja School. The students at this small school have felt the impact of the pandemic and been in lockdown since March 2020!
The majority of students come from poorer families and have found remote learning a real challenge. The school was built back in 1970 and the buildings are wearing out.
Funds raised this year will help repair toilets and bathrooms and provide new desks, chairs and resources for students for when they come back to school.
Winter Contributions for the Monte Cecilia Housing Trust please
The Year 6 Outreach Leaders have been in contact with the Monte Cecilia Housing Trust whose motto is “building brighter futures”! For winter, one of the contributions needed most is socks for life.
Please donate NEW pairs of socks for children in need throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. Please put donations into the basket in Room 8 before the end of Term 2.
Additionally, the Monte Cecilia Housing Trust would appreciate donations of warm blankets. These need to be clean and either new or of excellent used condition please. These can be left on the brown shelves outside the office or dropped into Room 8 alongside the socks basket. Thank you.

Room 5 is on Pizza duty this week. Thank you Room 5, Parents!
We would like to thank everyone for your patience as we continue to review the pizza/ice block process, we seem to be making progress!
We have had a few problems with ordering the correct amount of pizza. Please could you ensure that your child only says that they are going to have pizza if they have the money to buy it?
Confirming with your child(ren) in the morning how many slices they are going to order would also be very helpful – to ensure that # of slices ordered early in the day is as close as possible to those picked up at lunchtime!
Also, it’s really helpful for our volunteers if you are able to make sure that your children have the correct change, if possible. Thank you.
Pizza slices are $2 each. Please note ice blocks are back to $2 each as we now have the larger ice blocks back in stock.
HELP NEEDED PLEASE!
Pizza coordinator role. We now need someone new to take on the Pizza coordinator role. You could take this on either as an individual or make a team to share the role, though it’s not too time consuming, and don’t worry…..it does not mean that you are on pizza duty every week!!
Please contact us on [email protected] if you would like more details about the role and may be interested in helping.
Caring shed/Sock drive
Monte Cecilia has been very grateful for the donations that they have received from the caring shed recently. Thank you for continuing to donate good quality used goods.
The Year 6 Outreach leaders have been working hard with their sock drive for Monte Cecilia. We had an amazing response from everybody and we have a fantastic amount of socks to donate. Thank you all.
School Uniform shop
The next dates for the school uniform shop opening are 6th August and 3rd September 2.30pm – 3.15pm. If you find that you need anything before then please contact Sabrina via the PTA email [email protected].
HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!
Sabrina has also asked whether anybody may be available to help in the shop on the days that it’s open please? Please contact her on the PTA email address as above if you would be available to help, Thank you.
Yes it’s back by popular demand!! Wondering how to keep the kids occupied over the holidays?
We may be able to help with that!! Packs will be coming home with your child/ren next week and you will find all of the details that you need in there.
Parents’ quiz night – Save the date – Wednesday 11th August 7.30 pm
It’s time to find out just how smart the Parents at St Michael’s really are (or at least how good they are at quizzes!)
This will be held at the Auckland Bowling Club with an official Quizmaster and is sure to be an evening of fun, friendship and fierce competition! More details to follow.
Yummy fruit sticker collecting – (Terms 2 and 3)
Keep collecting those stickers to earn fun sports equipment rewards for the school. Each sticker is worth 1 point and each bag tag is worth 10 points.
Please place completed sheets into the PTA box (outside the PTA cupboard in the senior school) or give them directly to Mrs Barrington.
Last year SMCS collected close to 6000 points, which equated to over $700 of playground and sports gear.

The next PTA Meeting will be held on 2nd August – 7pm – Staff Room. We are always happy to welcome new input and new ideas, so come along! We’d love to see you there.
