St. Martha’s Feast is July 29
“O blessed St. Martha, your faith led Jesus to proclaim, “I am the resurrection and the life”; and faith let you see beyond his humanity when you cried out, “Lord I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” With firm hope you said, I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him, and Jesus called your brother Lazarus back from the dead. With pure love for Jesus you welcomed him into your home. Pray for me that I may grow in faith, hope and love, and that Jesus, who sat at your table, will hear me and grant me a place at the banquet of eternal life. Amen.” (https://www.catholicculture.org/culture/liturgicalyear/prayers)
Manaaki ki te Atua,
Catholic Caring Mass 2021
Congratulations to Talia, Anika and Joaquin who were nominated to attend the annual Catholic Caring Foundation Mass with Bishop Michael Gielen on Wednesday 28 July.
The Caring Mass will be a special time to celebrate the care and compassion these students demonstrate on a daily basis. During the Mass, Bishop Michael blessed the students and they received a certificate.
Talia, Anika and Joaquin have been nominated by staff because of outstanding compassion shown so far in their final year at St Michael’s Catholic School. These students embody the values of Saint Mary Mackillop in all that they do and lead by example to younger students.
Happy Term 3! We hope you’ve all had great Holidays.

HELP NEEDED PLEASE!
Pizza Coordinator role – We still need someone new to take on the Pizza coordinator role.
You could take this on either as an individual or make a team to share the role, though it’s not too time consuming, and don’t worry…..it does not mean that you are on pizza duty every week!!
Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more details about the role and may be interested in helping.

Scholastic Book Club
This Friday, 30 July your child will come home with a copy of the latest Scholastic Lucky Book Club brochure. There are many benefits of Book Club, including:
- Carefully curated with age appropriate titles.
- Value for money – children can take home a book from as little as $3.
- Quality publishing – access to the best in children’s publishing from bestselling authors and illustrators.
- Rewards that go back to the school to buy more books and educational resources!
Ordering from the brochures is easy, it is all done online via LOOP (the Linked Online Ordering and Payment platform for parents). There are two ways you can order online:
- Visit mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz to set up your account and order through the website.
- Download the LOOP App (this is a different LOOP from the Skool LOOP App!) and follow the prompts. Click the on link for setting up LOOP: Scholastic Easy to follow Guide (click to view)
Each year remember to log on to your account and update your Child/Children’s Year Level and Classroom to ensure that ordered books will be delivered to the correct place!
Orders close two weeks after the brochures come out – Issue 3 orders must be completed online by Friday, August 19th. Books are delivered to the school the week after orders close, and will be handed out to your children in their classrooms once they have been sorted.
Please do not hand in any orders or money to the Office, all orders must be placed online via the website, or through the LOOP App.
Our School benefits hugely from your Book Club orders. Rewards points are earned through our spend, and these points are gifted back to the Teachers and Library at St Michaels School throughout the Year.
Any questions please feel free to contact our Book Club Team on SMCSBookClub@gmail.com
The Caring Shed has been emptied over the holidays and is therefore able to accept your good quality donations.
Thank you continuing to donate so generously to The Caring Shed. Monte Cecilia has extended their appreciation for all donations that they have received.
Please send food donations into school to the basket by the office.
These food donations will be taken up to Church every Thursday when we have class Masses and will be taken up to the Alter as part of the offertory.
School Uniform shop
The next dates for the school uniform shop opening are 6th August and 3rd September. If you find that you need anything before then please contact Sabrina via the PTA email email@example.com
We are quite well stocked with boys’ uniforms but are very short of girls’ uniforms, (especially 10 yrs plus) so please donate anything that you no longer need.
HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!
Sabrina has also asked whether anybody may be available to help in the shop on the days that it’s open please? Please contact her on the PTA email address as above if you would be available to help, Thank you.
How have you been going with the Runathon over the holidays?
Hopefully your kids have been dodging the showers and managing to get out and about adding to their totals towards their half or full marathon total.
There’s still plenty of time to continue to add to it and raise money for PE equipment for the school while getting healthy at the same time. It doesn’t have to be straight running, all sorts of continuous movement as well as 30 mins of team sport all count towards the total. See your information sheet for more details.
Family Movie Night
Save the date: 12 September 5pm- 7pm. More details to follow nearer the time.
Yummy fruit sticker collecting – (For the rest of term 3)
Keep collecting those stickers to earn fun sports equipment rewards for the school. Each sticker is worth 1 point and each bag tag is worth 10 points.
Please place completed sheets into the PTA box (outside the PTA cupboard in the senior school) or give them directly to Mrs Barrington.
Last year SMCS collected close to 6000 points, which equated to over $700 of playground and sports gear.

Upcoming Vacancy – Treasurer role – PTA
Thank you to Josephine Chang who has been doing a fantastic job as Treasurer over the past year or so, unfortunately (for us) Jo is now involved with an exciting new venture and is no longer able to continue as Treasurer.
We are therefore looking for someone to take over this role. If you are an organised person who is able to give the time to come to PTA meetings then this could be the role for you.
Prior Financial experience would be a bonus, but not essential.
Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org for more details, the sooner the better to free Jo up.
The next PTA Meeting will be held on 2nd August – 7pm – Staff Room. We are always happy to welcome new input and new ideas, so come along! We’d love to see you there.
Ree and Sarah (your PTA Co-Chairs)
