Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

“Me mahi tahi tatou mo te aronga o te katoa”
We should work together for the wellbeing of everyone.

‘Let us be joyful and thank God’. Mary MacKillop 1874

The New Zealand Principals Federation Conference that I attended in Rotorua really inspired me as a leader. There were many issues raised that were thought provoking such as: How does our school recognise multi-ethnic students? How does our school incorporate biculturalism and multiculturalism? Implementing the teaching of Aotearoa’s History; and Transformational Leadership. We were privileged to listen to young leaders of the future (8 Year 13 students from 4 different secondary schools) share their ‘lockdown stories’ and their aspirations and dreams.

“Let us go out, we may not rest secure, for need calls loudly. We must seek God there.
Let us go out, blessed by the Spirit, with the charism of Saint Mary of the cross, to do justice, with loving kindness and to walk humbly with our God.
Let us go out, as an inspired people, let loving be our flame. Let hope sustain us in building a world fit for the children of generations still to come.
Let us go out and take Mary’s spirit to all those we meet. ”

St Michael’s quiz night – Wednesday 11th August Auckland Bowling Club, 7pm for 7.30pm quiz start

We’ve had a great response for the quiz night and are really looking forward to some friendly rivalry and competition! There’s still just enough time if you would like to join, but hurry, ticket sales close on Friday 6th Aug.
Form your own table or email us on [email protected] and we will put you on a table where you can get to know other Parents. Ticket price includes a shared platter per table and entry to the quiz.
A cash bar will be operating. There’s also plenty of free parking at the club from 5pm onwards.

To enter:
Email [email protected] with your table group or just your name (and we can make a table for you). Pay $30 per person into the PTA bank account 12 3075 019913400, referencing quiz night and your surname. Once payment is seen, you will receive an email confirmation and your name will be on the entry list.

  • Tickets must be purchased by Tomorrow – 6th August – no door sales!
  • This is bound to be a fun social night for the parents of SMCS!

School Uniform shop

  • The Second hand School Uniform Shop is open this week 6th Aug from 2.30 -3.15pm.
  • The next date for the school uniform shop opening will be 3rd September 2.30 -3.15pm.

We are quite well stocked with boys’ uniforms but are very short of girls’ uniforms, (especially 10 yrs plus) so please donate anything that you no longer need.

Sabrina has also asked whether anybody may be available to help in the shop on the days that it’s open please? Please contact her on the PTA email address [email protected] if you would be available to help, Thank you.

Hopefully your kids have been dodging the showers and managing to get out and about adding to their totals towards their half or full marathon total.

There’s still plenty of time to continue to add to it and raise money for PE equipment for the school while getting healthy at the same time. It doesn’t have to be straight running, all sorts of continuous movement as well as 30 mins of team sport all count towards the total. See your information sheet for more details.

As we did last time, we are hoping to help to supplement your child’s distance if needed by putting on a before school running club. Approximately 8am for Yr 3 to 6 (Yrs 2 and under must have a Parent or Caregiver with them if they wish to join)

We have already had one father who has volunteered to help with this, possibly on a Wednesday and Friday and we’d love to hear from any keen runners who’d like to help, or non-runners who would be happy to stand at road crossings and make sure that everybody stays safe.

This was really enthusiastically attended last time we did the Runathon and is also fantastic training towards Cross Country at the end of August!! We are hoping to start next Wednesday 11th Aug and we’ll send a class dojo out to let you know if we have enough helpers.

Scholastic Book Club

Last Friday, 30 July your child should have brought a copy of the latest Scholastic Lucky Book Club brochure home with them..

There are many benefits of Book Club, including:

  • Carefully curated with age appropriate titles.
  • Value for money–children can take home a book from as little as $3.

Ordering from the brochures is easy, it is all done online via LOOP (the Linked Online Ordering and Payment platform for parents). There are two ways you can order online:

  1. Visit mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz to set up your account and order through the website.
  2. Download the LOOP App (this is a different LOOP from the Skool LOOP App!) and follow the prompts.

Orders close two weeks after the brochures come out – Issue 3 orders must be completed online by Friday, August 19th. Books are delivered to the school the week after orders close, and will be handed out to your children in their classrooms once they have been sorted.

Please do not hand in any orders or money to the Office, all orders must be placed online via the website, or through the LOOP App.

Our School benefits hugely from your Book Club orders. Rewards points are earned through our spend, and these points are gifted back to the Teachers and Library at St Michaels School throughout the Year.
