Thank you to all the families who attended our Consultation afternoon. We had approximately 45 people attend. It was great to hear your thoughts and ideas. The Board will be reviewing the feedback and will publish a summary. We have had two beautiful whole school Masses over the past two weeks and it was great to see so many parents and grandparents there. The singing has been outstanding. Thank you to the PTA for running such a fun Quiz night, we all had a great time.

Curriculum & Learning – Year 4-6 ICAS Assessments
A reminder that if you registered your child to participate in the user -pays ICAS Assessments, the test dates are as follows:
- ICAS Science – Monday 23 August (Please note this has changed due to Year 5/6 Winter Field Day change in date) (Week 5)
- ICAS Mathematics – Monday 30 August (Week 6)
Year 5/6 Winter Field Day – Rescheduled to Tuesday 24 August.

Presiding Board Update
Kia ora whanau,
After two weeks back at school the holidays now seem a long time ago. I hope you all had the opportunity to spend some time together as a family and do some fun activities.
On Sunday, we held a community consultation afternoon where we encouraged our school community to share their ideas and thoughts about St Michael’s. Thank you to Ann, the teachers, the PTA and other BOT members for all their hard work to pull this afternoon together and their help and support on the day to ensure it ran smoothly.
Thank you also to those that attended, it was great to hear some of the ideas and suggestions and it illustrated how valuable getting feedback from our community is. We have a large diverse community at St Michael’s with different experiences and perspectives and it is a strength that we have as a school.
The BOT and PTA will review all the feedback to understand the areas that the community wants to see us focus on over both the short, and longer term. Some of these, no doubt, will present easy wins, while others will require more planning and input.
Feedback and suggestions don’t need to happen just at these events. The BOT welcomes suggestions at any time so please reach out if you have any feedback.
On the calendar this week is the school quiz night. These events are a great way to meet other parents and test your general knowledge about flags of the world and US presidents. It is important to support these school events as it helps us grow stronger as a school community. It looks like it will be a fun evening.

We had much more success with the quantity ordered last week. Thank you for clarifying with your child/ren how many pieces of pizza they are ordering.

Scholastic Book Club
ISSUE 3 ORDERS CLOSING ON FRIDAY!! Books should be delivered next week.
Ordering from the brochures is easy, it is all done online via LOOP (the Linked Online Ordering and Payment platform for parents). There are two ways you can order online:
- Visit mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz to set up your account and order through the website.
- Download the LOOP App (this is a different LOOP from the Skool LOOP App!) and follow the prompts. Click the on link for setting up LOOP: Scholastic Easy to follow Guide (click to view)
Each year remember to log on to your account and update your Child/Children’s Year Level and Classroom to ensure that ordered books will be delivered to the correct place!
Orders close two weeks after the brochures come out – Issue 3 orders must be completed online by Friday, August 19th. Books are delivered to the school the week after orders close, and will be handed out to your children in their classrooms once they have been sorted.
Please do not hand in any orders or money to the Office, all orders must be placed online via the website, or through the LOOP App.
Our School benefits hugely from your Book Club orders. Rewards points are earned through our spend, and these points are gifted back to the Teachers and Library at St Michaels School throughout the Year.

Community Consultation – Sun 8th Aug
Thank you to all who came and contributed to the community consultation afternoon on Sunday. From a PTA perspective, for those who were unable to come along in person, we are hoping to distribute our short survey through School, please fill this in and return it to us so that we can have a better idea of what the wider community would like us to be focusing on and how we can best go about doing it.
All surveys are in confidence, so please be as honest as you want. The more information you give us the better we can direct our energy. If you filled one in on Sunday but have thought more about any aspects, please feel free to email us your ideas.
St Michael’s quiz night – Wednesday 11th August
Thanks to all who participated. I think everyone who was there would agree that a fantastic evening was had by all at the Auckland Bowling Club last night. In all we had a full house with 14 tables and just over 80 people came along for the challenge.
Congratulations to ‘The Saints’ for taking out 1st prize after answering what were really hard questions this year! Although this was mainly a social event we also made just over $1,000 for the school and we’ll let you know what we are putting those funds towards after the next PTA meeting.
A huge thank you to Emma Houghton and Deahna Barrington for organising such a fun event. Also big thanks to Audrey Williams for organising a great Venue and to Auckland Bowling Club for hosting us.

It sounds like everyone has been enjoying the Runathon and kids forms are filling up fast. There’s still plenty of time to continue to add to it and raise money for PE equipment for the school while getting healthy at the same time.
It doesn’t have to be straight running, all sorts of continuous movement as well as 30 mins of team sport all count towards the total. See your information sheet for more details.
Working Bee – 29th August (TBC)
We are hoping to reschedule the working bee that we had to postpone back in term 1 thanks to the lockdown!
We are planning to:
- Sweeping and general tidying
- New planting
Please bring any tools that you have that you think may be helpful and please bring a plate for a shared morning tea.
School Uniform shop
The Second hand School Uniform shop will be open next on the 3rd September 2.30pm – 3.15pm.
We are quite well stocked with boys’ uniforms but are very short of girls’ uniforms, (especially 10 yrs plus) so please donate anything that you no longer need. If you need something outside of the opening dates, please email the PTA [email protected] and we will pass it on to Sabrina. It is also possible to take items home to try on and return what doesn’t fit.

Family movie night Save the date
- 12 September – 5pm- 7pm (More details to follow nearer the time)
Yummy fruit sticker collecting – (For the rest of term 3)
Keep collecting those stickers to earn fun sports equipment rewards for the school. Each sticker is worth 1 point and each bag tag is worth 10 points.
Please place completed sheets into the PTA box (outside the PTA cupboard in the senior school) or give them directly to Mrs Barrington. Last year SMCS collected close to 6000 points, which equated to over $700 of playground and sports gear.
