Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

“Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi’
With your basket and my basket the people will thrive

We are so grateful for all the kind and loving emails that have been sent to us this week. A group of us organised the next distance learning packs for either pick up or courier and this worked well. Please let us know if there is anything you need to support you and your tamariki during this time.

Distance Learning Packs – for Wednesday 1 September to Friday 10 September

The teachers are currently working on their next packs to be distributed to you if our lockdown is extended further. These will be emailed to you. Please let your child/ren’s teacher know if you also require a hard pack by 12 noon Monday 30 August. These will be couriered to you. In order to keep our staff safe we have decided that there will be no pick up option this time as the ‘Places of Interest’ is growing. The Ministry of Education will reimburse schools for the courier costs.

Please remember that each child also has their Reading Eggs (Y0-6); Math Seeds (Y0-2); Mathletics (Y3-6) and Write that Essay (Y4-6) accounts available for extra activities. If you do not have access to your child’s log-in details at home please contact their classroom teacher.

Learning From Home Website This has details of teaching and learning opportunities on TV via free-to-air Duke+1 (on Freeview or Sky channel 504) and online – episodes will be available on TVNZ On Demand soon after the original broadcast.

A Message from The Ministry Of Education

“A big thank you for taking the lockdown seriously and doing what we have been asked – we’ve seen before that staying at home will break the chain of transmission and save lives. It is even more important that we all follow the health advice because the Delta variant is very contagious. Breaking the rules risks the health of those close to you, the wider community and could result in the lockdown period being extended.”

We stand together

“We pray for all who are suffering and bereaved. At this time of sorrow, incomprehension and tragedy, we stand together. In this crisis, we pray for God’s mercy and healing for the sick and for health and strength for all who care for them. Amen.” (Prayer: Adapted from a message from Sister Bridget Tighe of Caritas Jerusalem)

PTA News

Fit Mums’ Group – Now online during lockdown. All welcome!!

Our Fit Mums group has moved online and we have classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 8-8.30am via Zoom (before home-learning!) for $5.

They are Pilates strength based and also good for beginners. No equipment required, just space to work out and a mat/carpet. Children also welcome!

Please get in contact with Carmel if you’d like to be added to the group. Up to you which if any days you join!

We notice from money coming into the PTA account that many of you are using some of your lockdown time to keep ticking off those kms on your Runathon sheets!

Thank you for putting that through on what may be a very challenging time for many families. We just wanted to let you know that anything sent in during lockdown is being logged and accounted for. Thank you!

We hope that you are all coping well at home and we look forward to seeing everybody back safe and well in the very near future.
