Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

He aha te mea nui o te āo? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata!’
What is the most important thing in the world?
It is people, it is people, it is people!

It certainly is a challenging time especially without clarity on when schools can open again. We will continue with our distance packs and Zoom sessions until we are able to safely open our school (hopefully on November 15th). I would like to congratulate Ellie Soliman for winning first place in an art competition that was organised by the Egyptian Embassy in NZ. Please see the photos further below.

School Reports

Reports will be sent to you in Week 7 of Term 4. Teachers will make an overall teacher judgement from the work that has been submitted and from their zoom sessions with students. The Levels and Achievement indicators in the report will reflect these overall judgements at this point in time.

Alpha Online

Try Alpha Online:  A message from Bishop Michael:  These are challenging days … what about those who don’t know our Lord’s love, who don’t know the comfort of faith, who don’t know the surety of eternal life and the deep forgiveness and peace that Jesus’s mercy brings?  Alpha is the most gentle way I’ve found to share the good news of Jesus.  I will be offering Alpha online (via Zoom) for 8 interactive sessions at 7.30pm on a Tuesday night starting 2 November.  Who can you invite?

Be courageous and invite people you know who don’t have faith, or people who have maybe lost their faith, to come and know him in a new and fresh way.  Be assured there’s no pressure, no follow-up and no charge; it’s an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.

For more information go to: https://www.aucklandcatholic.org.nz/alpha-online-registration/ or contact Teresa on 021 649 012 or alpha@cda.org.nz.

Today is the Feast Day of Saints Simon and Jude

“O God, Who, through Thy blessed Apostles Simon and Jude, hast brought us to the knowledge of Thy name, grant that we may celebrate their everlasting glory
by advancing in good works, and that we may advance in good works by celebrating their glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee,
in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.”

PTA News

Families affected by COVID

We hope that you are continuing to cope in your bubbles and would just like to re-iterate that if your family is struggling in some way and we can offer some type of support like picking up shopping etc, please email the PTA at ptasmcs@gmail.com.

Also, if you may be in a position to help other families in your local community, please contact us to let us know where you live and what you may be able to do. Thank you very much to those who have already.

Scholastic book orders

Unfortunately we won’t be able to hold book week this year, which also means that there will be no onsite book fair either. Luckily for us, Scholastic has created an online digital catalogue with home delivery. It’s a supersized issue full of Christmas goodies as well as the most popular books from 2021. If you spend over $35 then delivery is free.

Ordering from the brochure is easy, it is all done online via LOOP (the Linked Online Ordering and Payment platform for parents).

There are two ways you can order online:

  1. Visit mybookclub.scholastic.co.nz to set up your account and order through the website.
  2. Download the LOOP App (this is a different LOOP from the Skool LOOP App!) and follow the prompts.

There is an easy to follow guide how to do it:

Parents Guide to setting up LOOP

Our School benefits hugely from your Book Club orders. Rewards points are earned through our spend, and these points are gifted back to the Teachers and Library at St Michael’s School throughout the Year.

Term 3 Outstanding Scholastic book orders

Thank you for your patience if you are one of the unfortunate families who were awaiting a book order when we suddenly locked down.

Ree has been in touch with Scholastic who have assured us that they should be on their way out to schools at the moment. As soon as they arrive we will find a safe contactless way to distribute them to you.

Yummy stickers

The Yummy stickers collection has been extended, so please continue to collect these if you have them on your fruit. When we return to school, please place them in the PTA postbox or give them directly to Mrs Barrington or if you have any ready to be sent now, please contact Mrs Barrington at deanhnamaree@gmail.com to arrange to get them to her for posting.

Last year SMCS collected close to 6000 points, which equated to over $700 of playground and sports gear.

PTA (Zoom) meeting 8th Nov 2021

We will be holding a Zoom PTA meeting on 8th Nov at 7pm. If you would like to attend then please contact us on ptasmcs@gmail.com and we can send you the zoom link.

We are starting to (optimistically!!) think about roles within the PTA for next year, if you would be interested in helping with any roles, please contact us on the above address. New people with different perspectives and ideas to help improve aspects of the school for the students and wider school community are always welcome.

We really hope (as I’m sure you all do) that we will be able to get back to School at some point this term and give the kids some sense of normal life.

Take care all
Ree and Sarah & the PTA
