Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
“Ngā Mihi O Te Aranga”
This has been a tough term for our school community and especially for all those affected by COVID-19. It was a blessing to end the term with a Washing of the Feet Liturgy in the Church. It was a special time for students and staff to be back in the Church after such a long time. It will be wonderful to welcome back whanau on site next term now that we are in the orange setting. I pray that you all have a wonderful Easter Break with your families.
Catholic Special Character Internal Review Parent/whanau survey
We would love for you to complete this survey.
As part of our annual Catholic Special Character Review, we would like to gather information about how effectively our school, through its practices and communications, facilitates encounters with Christ and spreads the Good News.
We aim to explore any barriers to meaningful (conscious, active) participation of families in Special Character (encountering Christ) opportunities provided through school and parish. Thank you in advance for your input.

Manaaki ki te Atua,
Sustainability! – Waste Audit in Term 1
As part of our efforts to improve the school’s sustainability initiatives, the Year 6 students recently undertook a waste audit. The purpose of this audit was to look at how much waste we are producing as a school community and where we can look to improve.
The results were quite surprising with a total waste (for one day) of 14.8kg, including nearly 2kgs of food waste! As a result of the audit the Year 6 Sustainability Leaders, along with Mrs Spora, will be looking at ways we can reduce this amount moving forward. Watch this space next term, for ways you can help from home!

School Board Elections 2022
The next trisennial school Board of Trustees (BoT) elections are to be held in September this year and we encourage you to think about running for the Board.
The BoT is made up of elected parent representatives, proprietor representatives, Ann as principal, and a teacher representative. As a school community it makes us stronger when we have a cross section of views and experiences at a governance level. While being on the Board can be challenging it is also rewarding as you draw on your personal experiences while considering the wider good and direction the school is heading. September is only 6 months away so now is the time to start considering how you can contribute.
Feel free to contact any of the current BoT members, if you would like to know more you can email Jon Williams firstname.lastname@example.org

Catholic Church Aotearoa Feedback Form
Haere mai, Talofa lava, Maligayang pagdating, Malo e leilei, Hwan yeong, Bienvenido, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Bienvenue, and Welcome!
Pope Francis has asked the question of ‘how we journey together’. The purpose is to ‘listen to the questions, concerns and hopes of every church, people and nation’.
We’d like to hear from you! People of all backgrounds are invited to contribute. Completing this feedback form takes about five minutes and your input will feed into a diocesan/regional paper on how we as a Church and as Catholics ‘journey together’, which then informs a paper to the Vatican. Yay! We’ve made it through a term!!
We’re really optimistic that with the change to orange setting yesterday, we will be able to get back to some semblance of normality and be able to start organising some events in the upcoming terms.
Thank you to all of the classes who have helped so far with pizzas and to Sylvie and her team for organising it each week.

2nd Hand School Uniform shop
The next date that the 2nd hand school uniform shop will be open in is the 6th May in term 2.
As we approach the end of term and change to the winter uniform, we would be very glad of any uniform (summer or winter) that you would like to donate as we are still short of many sizes. Please send any donations that you may have into school with your child.
As we have not been able to access the school for some time, the grounds are looking a little unloved, so we are hoping to have a Community Working Bee early next term, possibly for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon – date to be confirmed. Everyone is welcome to come along, bring tools and lend a hand. More details after the holidays.
Next PTA meeting (In real life!!)
Next PTA meeting date Monday – 9th May at 7pm, everyone is welcome to join.
We hope that you will all have a fantastic Easter break.
Take care all
Ree, Sarah and the PTA
