Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

“Kiangangahau, kia whakawhānuitia te Rongopai a te Karaiti”
To live and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ

It has been lovely to be back at school this week, and to catch up with the children, and with so many of you too. It was a very special week for my family, as we welcomed a new grandchild last Friday night. Taylor Nola Marie joined her big sister Maddison and we are so thankful for her safe arrival.

This week, the children have begun their daily dance lessons with Omar from Dance Curriculum. The children are learning two dances each, and are looking forward to sharing these with you during their final showcase (Friday 4 November). We will keep you updated regarding a time for this.

All Saints Day is next Tuesday 1 November, and you are warmly invited to join us to celebrate this special day. Mass will begin at 9.15am.

November is the month for remembering those who have passed away. Please feel free to record the name/s of anyone whom you wish to be remembered (and prayed for) this month, and pop it in the box at St Michael’s Church.

There will be no Meditation on Monday 31 October, due to dance lessons in the Hall.

PTA News

Mum’s movie night

Thank you to all of those that supported the last PTA event of 2022.

It was lovely to see so many ex SMCS mums, they almost out-numbered current mums.

The movie was delightful and the feedback about the whole night was so positive. Thanks to the class reps that encouraged people to come along and to those that invited their own friends.

Thanks also to Emma H and Lauren K for sourcing the treat on the seat, a lovely scarf and delicious treats from Cadbury.

We were fortunate to have 2 raffles. The Kindo app worked well for tickets and between presales and on the night the raffles made close to $400. The donation of these raffles was very much appreciated.  Please support Eastridge New World and Farro for their generosity. The funds raised are going towards supporting the school in costs for the upcoming school trips.

Are you keen to get fit for the summer but haven’t known where to start? Then why not come along to the Fit Mums class? It’s a friendly fun class which runs for approx 45 mins from 9am every Mon and Weds in a well equipped home gym on Ladies Mile Rd.

The intensity will start slightly lower again at the beginning of term and will gradually build as the term goes on and as your fitness increases, but it’s also a fantastic work out that you can take at your own pace.

There’s room for 10 people per session at a cost of $12 each time using a special discount code. Please see website for details and book online to secure your place. www.cmfitness.co.nz. Discount code BADASSMAMA

PTA 2023

We have 2 PTA meetings planned for Term 4 – and one focus for these meetings will be succession planning & handover for the roles of:

  • Chair (or Co-chair if you’d like to split the role with another person)
  • Secretary

PTA Secretary Job description

Are you an organised person who enjoys paying attention to details?

Our ideal secretary should be:

  • Organised
  • Keep good records/Record activities
  • Take action promptly
  • Work well within a group
  • Multi-task

Key tasks include:

  • Attending meetings
  • Taking accurate notes (touch typing an advantage but not essential)
  • Format and re-circulate the minutes via the Chair/Co-Chairs
  • Communicate PTA news/decisions to Class Reps following PTA meetings

If you have any of the skills above and are keen to use them, then we would love to hear from you. It’s a great way to meet more members of the community and a really rewarding way of being involved in school life.

We invite anyone who is keen to know more – or put their hands up for this position – to be in touch with either Sarah or Ree via the PTA email ([email protected]) or have a chat to us if you see us around the school.

Next PTA meeting

The next PTA meeting date 7th November at 7pm – in the staff room and via Zoom (link will be published closer to the meeting)
