Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

“E hara tā kutoa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini”
My strength is not as an individual, but as a collective

It was wonderful to see so many of you at last Friday’s Dance Curriculum showcase! I was amazed at the variety of dance styles the children learned, and over such a short time period. We received wonderful feedback from the students, staff and wider school community regarding these lessons, and following this have engaged Dance Curriculum for two weeks of lessons again in 2023.

At the end of this term we will be farewelling our lovely Reading Recovery teacher, Deahna Barrington. Deahna has been a wonderful asset to our school, and we appreciate all that she has done over the past three years to support and further the literacy skills of our Junior School students. We will miss her and wish her all the best!

Following on from Deahna’s news, in 2023 we will be welcoming Anna Harvey back to St Michael’s. Anna will be beginning her Reading Recovery training, and we know that she is looking forward to working with our learners in the Junior School next year.

Finally, a huge congratulations to Ian Fernando and Sophia Petrus who were awarded the Lions Junior Citizenship Awards for Year 6 last night. Ian and Sophia exemplify the spirit of the Lions Code of Citizenship, and we are very proud of them for representing our school so beautifully.

Netball Prizegiving

This will be held in the School Hall, straight after Meditation next Monday morning (14 November). You are welcome to join us and celebrate the success of our SMCS netball teams!

Helpers still needed for Athletics Day

Athletics Day will be on Friday 18 November. In order for this to run smoothly, Miss Bagnall is looking for parent helpers to fill a range of roles. One of the key values of our school is to “do your bit” and we would love your support in ensuring the success of this event. If you are available to help on the day, please email Charlotte at [email protected].

Class Placements 2022

We respectfully ask that you do not make requests for particular teachers or for specific children to be placed together next year. Our current class teachers will place children in next year’s classes based on a large number of factors. Please be reassured that the teachers know the children really well as learners. They have good insight into the different learning needs of the children and where and with whom they will do their best learning.

Arney Road Resurfacing Remedial Works – Road Closure

Please note that Arney Road will be closed on the 14 November and 15 November for remedial road works to be done. The work will run from 7am – 7pm. These two days of closure will also be subject to change based on the weather conditions. Please click here to view letter from Auckland Transport.

School Roll

We have had a number of families inquiring to come to our school next year, especially in the Seniors, however we are full. Please let us know if your family is moving from our school so that we can accommodate those on the waiting list.

Yummy Stickers

Thanks to everyone who has been munching their way through fruit and saving Yummy stickers. Whilst our numbers of stickers redeemed was quite a lot lower than previous years, We have still got over $300 worth of balls and other sports equipment heading our way by the end of the year.

Remember that you can continue to collect stickers all year round ready to be handed in in terms 2 and 3.  Download your collecting sheet from the link here

Also, if you have an excess of balls in good condition at home, please feel free to send them in to school where they will get plenty of use at playtime!!

My Kindo lunches

Did you know that a small percentage of each sale through My Kindo comes back to the school?

Last term we received $103.48 from families ordering EZ lunches, and now we have two great options available to order. Sushi on a Wednesday and Subway on a Thursday. Thanks for ordering!

Pizza Friday continues to be a great fundraiser, as well as the kids loving it and making Friday lunchtimes an easy option for us parents, so thanks so much to all for continuing to support that.

If you have any questions please contact our school coordinator Laura Thomson on [email protected]

We aim to have a school marquee at the event. If anyone would like to volunteer to set this up please contact Laura. She would usually do it but has an engagement that weekend which means she can’t. Set up takes place the evening prior and the tent must be packed down at the end of the event. Bonus is you usually get a parking permit on site for the day – a serious perk given the large crowds!
