Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,

“Poipoia te kakano Kia puawai”
Nurture the seed and it will blossom

We have finally come to the end of our school year and I am so proud of everything that has been achieved. It was wonderful to be able to gather together as a community to celebrate Mass, showcase our dancing skills, celebrate Grandparents’ Day, and yesterday to be able to hold our Prize Giving and Christmas Concert.

A huge thank you to staff, parents and students for all of your contributions to our school. I appreciate everything you have done.

Serious About Sustainability

Nico Tauri is a Year 6 student at our school. He challenged the makers of plastic scoops in washing powder to be more sustainable: watch it on Fair Go. Following the Consumer Heroes segment where Nico successfully challenged Unilever to remove plastic scoops from Surf washing powder, Nico was interviewed about what he was going to do next…. Encountering CHRIST

Excerpt from ‘The Catholic Education of School-Age Children’ (NZ Bishops, 2014)
Parents have the primary right and a serious obligation to educate their children. As well as providing education in the faith in the home, parents have the right to choose how their children are educated outside the home. In assisting parents with their obligations to their children the Catholic school makes the Church as “mother and teacher” a practical reality.

St Michael’s Parish Website – Mass times – Sunday 8am, 10am & 5pm; Monday – Friday 7am & 12noon; Saturday 8am.

A Christmas Prayer of Good Wishes

“May you be filled with the wonder of Mary, the obedience of Joseph, the joy of the angels, the eagerness of the shepherds, the determination of the magi, and the peace of the Christ child. Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever.” (southernliving.com)

I wish you all peace and happiness at Christmas and throughout the New Year. I pray that God will protect you and your families over the Christmas break. To our Graduates and leavers, I hope you have a smooth transition to your new schools. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Treasurer’s update

Thank you to all who have supported the various fundraising activities that we have had during the year, we hope that as well as raising money for resources for the children you have had fun joining in, we really have a great friendly community that we hope to keep rebuilding after the uncertainty that Covid caused. Here is a round up of funds raised and where the money has been spent through out the year.

PTA Situations Vacant!

Now that our children’s class placements have been assigned, please let us or Charlotte Bagnall know if you would be keen to be a class rep. [email protected] or [email protected]

Key roles:

  • Keeping parents informed about various events happening around the school.
  • Acting as a conduit between the classroom and the PTA to communicate information either way.
  • Organising social events for your class possibly in conjunction with other classes where year groups are split.
  • Being aware of pastoral care needs within the classroom and directing them, initially to Ann, who can pass it on if required to the pastoral care team of the PTA.

Thank you and Goodbye

Thank you to the PTA members who will be moving on at the end of this year. You have contributed so much to the school and have been instrumental in some big events over the years. We are really grateful to have had your energy and input.

Thank you from us all. X

Have a fantastic Christmas and a very happy New Year!
We hope that you all stay safe and well.
