Tumuaki/Principal News
Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure
Congratulations to all of our 34 SMCS students who made their Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturday 19th August.
There have been a lot of excited students this week with the Senior Field Day on Tuesday and the Junior Museum trip on Wednesday. Thank you to all our parent helpers who supported us with these events.
We have had a number of staff sick (two of whom had COVID). Finding relievers have been difficult and at times we have had to split classes (something we do not like doing).
Last Friday, we were lucky enough to have Michael Mangan play a concert at school. Michael is an Australian Teacher/Performer/Liturgist. He has composed over 250 songs, some of which we use in our school Liturgies and Masses. The children thoroughly enjoyed his visit, singing along to all their favourite songs and learning some new actions. Scroll further down to view the photos.

Parking on Bassett Road - Not on Yellow lines or in Driveways
We are still getting complaints from our neighbours with people parking across driveways and on the yellow lines. The Health and Safety committee are currently looking at ways that we can stop parents doing this. We have contacted the Council to send Traffic Wardens but they cannot come on a regular basis to ticket those offenders.

Excerpt from ‘The Catholic Education of School-Age Children’ (NZ Bishops, 2014)
“The Faith Amid Secularity research revealed that the young people in the study “demonstrate a strong Catholic sense of the presence of God, exhibiting a Catholic conviction of the goodness of humankind as part of a created order understood to be fundamentally good”. They claim a Catholic identity and claim Catholic values, but “in the everyday engagement of faith with life, there appears to be a disconnection” (Page9, 32)

St. Bartholomew Feast Day

“Dear Lord, we thank You for giving us St. Bartholomew as an example of holiness. Help us to imitate the love of You he showed by answering the call of Jesus to be an Apostle. St. Bartholomew, you were one of the twelve men specially chosen by Christ to serve as His Apostles. You followed Him willingly and grew close to Him throughout the time that you spent with Him. Amen” (https://www.praymorenovenas.com/st-bartholomew-novena)
