TUMUAKI/PRINCIPAL NEWS
Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at last weekend’s Parish/School Mass. These combined events are vital for preserving the link between the church and the school, and this is something that our community has identified as being of the utmost importance to you too. Heartfelt thanks to Georgina van Schaijik (DRS) and Lauren Carleton (Choir, Head of Arts) for organising such a lovely Mass, and to the PTA for hosting morning tea in the hall following the event.
A reminder that school will be closed tomorrow (Friday 15 March) while our staff undertakes professional development at Sacred Heart College with other Catholic schools in our area. We look forward to utilising this new learning once we return to school.
Green Day

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school’s outreach opportunities. These are an important chance for our children to demonstrate an awareness of the needs of those around them, and to help us to support causes that are close to our hearts at St Michael’s.
Today our Year 6 Outreach Leaders, Joanna Beny Nirojan, Oliver Carter, Hannah Frogoso and Mila Naoum collected $389.50 for The Kindness Collective. We thank you for your donations, and know that they will be very gratefully received.
Swimming Sports
We had a wonderful day last Friday celebrating our schools’ first sporting event for the year - the annual St Michael’s Swimming Sports. This event is always very special to us, as it is held at Sacred Heart College where many of our ex-pupils attend. If you joined us on the day, you likely saw them popping in and out to say “hello”! Please scroll further down to view photos.
It was wonderful to see the children encouraging one another, and displaying their excellent sportsmanship. Well done to all children who participated in the event, and a big congratulations to those who placed in swimming finals! Our Prize Giving will be held at 2.00pm on Wednesday 27 March in the School Hall.
An enormous “thank you” to Charlotte Bagnall (Sports Co-ordinator) and her wonderful team of parent helpers. These special events cannot go ahead without the support of our community. If you haven’t volunteered before, we encourage you to get involved in our Cross Country or Athletic events later on in the year.
Road Patrol

You will have seen our Year 6 road patrollers out on the Bassett Road crossing every morning and afternoon. Constable Richard Tan came in earlier in the term to hold a refresher training session with our year 6’s. Our students were excited to see Constable Tan at SMCS.

The themes in our Religious Education Programme are broad categories of knowledge and learning that overlap, weave together and build upon each other.
For Years 1 & 2
Over the last 4 years, a new Religious Education Curriculum, To Tātou Whakapono Our Faith, has been developed. Level 1 (Year 1 & 2) students will be learning through the new Curriculum from this year beginning with the theme: Te Atua God. God is understood in the Catholic faith to be a unity of three ‘persons’ - the Trinity. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
