Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
Matthew 6:14-If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
In this weeks Gospel – Matthew 6:7-15: Jesus teaches his disciples to pray simply, using the Lord’s Prayer, and emphasizes the importance of forgiving others to receive forgiveness from God. Prayer does not need to be long or complicated. He reminds us that God already knows what we need before we ask. Simple and sincere prayers are enough to connect with Him.
Prayer is about building a relationship with God. It doesn’t require fancy words or perfect phrases. Jesus teaches us to approach God as a loving Father who cares for us and listens to our hearts. The Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful example of how to pray simply and meaningfully.
This teaching encourages us to focus on what truly matters in prayer. It’s not about how much we say but about the trust and love we bring to God. By praying with sincerity, we open our hearts to His guidance and grow closer to Him.
School/Parish Mass-Trinity Sunday
On Sunday, our school community came together for a significant and heartwarming event – our school mass, coupled with a blessing for our two staff members leaving us at the end of term Catherine Westwood and Philippa Barling. This gathering was a wonderful opportunity for us to unite as a faith-filled community, celebrating our shared values.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Fr Tony for celebrating our Mass and our Director of Religious Studies, Rebekah Capon, for her dedication and hard work in organising this special occasion. Her efforts ensured that the event was not only meaningful but also memorable for everyone involved.
This was also the final Mass of two cherished members of our school community. They were given a St Michael’s candle and Fr Tony along with the school community blessed Catherine Westwood and Philippa Barling. This was an opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for their dedication, hard work, and unwavering support over the years. Their contributions have made a lasting impact on all of us. As they embark on their next chapter, we wanted to send them off with our love, best wishes, and prayers for their future endeavors.
Celebrating Philippines Independence Day Thursday 12 June and Friday 13 June
This week, we joyfully celebrated Philippine Independence Day with a series of vibrant and engaging activities. The festivities kicked off on Thursday with sessions led by Mrs. Ambrosia, Mr. Hazel, Venus Itoh, Sydney Cruz, Katrin Frogoso Pagtalunan, Emily Barredo, and the senior students.
Throughout the day, students had the wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Philippine culture. During lunch times, they could participate in learning action songs and dance in Filipino, which was a fantastic way to engage with the language and traditions. These songs/dance were then beautifully performed at the Monday morning assembly, led by the senior students.
It was heartwarming to see the students taking the lead in these activities, showcasing their culture with pride and enthusiasm to the rest of the school. Overall, it brought the school community closer together, fostering a deeper appreciation for Philippine culture.

Principal Awards/Last Day Assembly
On Friday, June 27 2pm, we will hold our final assembly for the term. During this assembly, Principal Awards will be handed out, and recipient parents will be notified in advance. Please keep this information from your child, as it is always a nice surprise for them.
In addition to the awards, we will take this opportunity to recognise and bid farewell to Catherine Westwood and Philippa Barling as a school community. Their contributions have been invaluable, and we want to honor them properly.
You are all warmly invited to attend this special assembly. It will be a wonderful occasion to celebrate achievements and express our gratitude to Catherine and Philippa. We look forward to seeing you there.
Mid-Term Reports
At the end of Term 2 you will be receiving a Progress Report for your child. The introduction of the new English and Mathematics curriculums has meant a change in how we report. They have moved away from curriculum levels that spanned two years to a more detailed year-by-year progression.
We will continue to report on your child’s achievement in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, each area will have the assessment which was completed in this area.
The mid-year report provides a snapshot of how your child is currently tracking within their year level. It’s important to note that children often achieve at different rates across various areas of the curriculum – and that’s completely normal.

A more detailed letter will be sent next week which will outline the changes to our school report.
Teacher Only Day
Just a reminder that we have our Teacher Only Day (TOD) on Monday, June 23. On this day, our teachers will be collaborating with the Ministry of Education to work on the refreshed Maths curriculum. We are excited about this opportunity to dedicate time and space to enhance our skills and knowledge.
