TUMUAKI/PRINCIPAL NEWS
Tēnā koutou katoa St Michael’s Catholic School Community,
Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure
We come to the end of our school year and I am so proud of all the achievements and events we have had this year: School/Parish Masses; Year 6 Camp; Swimming Carnival; Character Parade and book week; Cross Country and Athletics; Dance Curriculum and Grandparents Day; The Matariki Breakfast; Cultural Week; Year 5 Gardening group (thanks to Lucy Carter and Jim Rae); and to finish the year with our Christmas Concert.
Thanksgiving Mass - Thursday 7 December
What a beautiful Thanksgiving Mass we had last week. It was wonderful to acknowledge and farewell all our graduates and the families who will be leaving us tomorrow. I made a mistake with the Houghton Family, they have been at our school for 12 years not 10 years as announced.

Prizegiving
A big “congratulations” to all of the children who were recognised at yesterday’s Academic Prize Giving! It was wonderful to celebrate these achievements with so many of you, particularly at such a busy time of year.

Excerpt from ‘The Catholic Education of School-Age Children’ (NZ Bishops, 2014)
“The key components of the Catholic character of a school include the people who facilitate the encounter with Christ and accompany the young disciple on the resulting journey (Catholic educators); the catechetical response to the young disciple’s need for knowledge (the Religious Education programme); formation which leads to growth in Catholic virtues and values, and – where appropriate – the living of the particular charism of the school, usually derived from the founding Religious Order; and the lived common good approach and witness of the wider faith community within which the school is situated, usually a parish or parishes.” (Page 10, 46)

“God, bless all who gaze upon this nativity scene. As we look at this Holy Family, let us pray for all families—those we know, and those we do not; those who live on the other side of the world, and those who live on the other side of the street.”
I wish you all peace and happiness at Christmas and throughout the New Year. I pray that God will protect you and your families over the Christmas break. To our Graduates and leavers, I hope you have a smooth transition to your new schools. I will keep you all in my prayers.
