SMCS OPEN DAY (TERM 3, 2026)

A very warm welcome to St Michael's Catholic School

At St. Michael’s, we are blessed to be guided by the charism of Saint Mary MacKillop and the Josephite tradition. Inspired by her unwavering faith, deep compassion, and dedication to education, we strive to live by her motto: "Never see a need without doing something about it."

Our school embodies the Josephite values of hospitality, inclusion, simplicity, and a strong commitment to justice. We believe in providing a welcoming and holistic education where every student is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential—academically, spiritually, and personally.

Through a spirit of service and community, we nurture young minds and hearts to become people of courage, kindness, and integrity.

Cultural Week 2026
20 Aug 2026

Dear Parents, Whanau and Caregivers,

This term we are celebrating Cultural Week in Week 6 from the 24th - 28th August.

It will be a special time to recognise the many and diverse cultures that are represented in our school and a great opportunity for children to share and others to learn about our school community.

We will be celebrating with a Cultural Mass in Week 6 on Thursday 27th August at 9:00am. You are welcome to join us.

You are invited to attend our Cultural Art Exhibition on Thursday 27 August at 3.00pm in the School Hall.

All artwork will be available for purchase for a flat fee of $10. Payment can be made through MyKindo or by cash/eftpos on the day. Purchased artworks will be distributed to families in Week 7.

The event will also feature a performance by the school choir at 3.45pm.

On Friday 28 August 2.15pm - Full school Assembly hosted by Room 6

During this week, as we did last year, we would like to invite whānau to visit our classrooms and share their expertise on their own cultures.

Listed below are examples of ways you can be involved:

  • Visiting classrooms during Cultural Week to share your culture.
E.g. a talk and slideshow, an activity, or sharing artifacts.
  • Coaching a group to learn a song or dance from a particular country.
  • Helping with the Cultural Art that will be happening in the classrooms in preparation for the Cultural Art exhibition on Thursday 27 3.00pm-4.30pm.
  • Dance performances and cultural talks during lunchtime.

If you would like to share about your culture, please email your child’s classroom teacher with your details, what you would like to do and your availability by Monday 24th August. Then the teachers will be in contact to arrange the details and a suitable time.

We also welcome any other ideas anyone may have. We look forward to your support to ensure another successful cultural week.
