Kia ora!
On behalf of the St Michael’s School Board we would like to welcome you to St Michael’s Catholic School.
Our Board's role centres on providing the best possible governance and strategic leadership to the school, with a focus on the constant enhancement of student achievement. We actively encourage and financially support the continuous professional development of all staff so that they provide the best educational service to our children.
Importantly, the Board has a dedicated and active Catholic Character committee that provides essential guidance and strategy for the Catholic Character dimension of St Michael’s. Father Tony Dunn plays a very active role within our school and mentors this committee and staff - helping us all to promote, maintain and preserve the Special Character of the school.
We are also very fortunate to have Board members whose particular strengths enhance both our Health & Safety and Property & Finance and committees. Their governance helps oversee the continued safety and wellbeing of our children and ensures our school is fiscally sound and carefully monitored to ensure future financial security.
Michal Petrus - Presiding Board Member
The St Michael’s School Board is entrusted to work on behalf of the stakeholders of the school. Governance emphasizes strategic leadership rather than administrative details, and ensures that the Board complies with legal and policy requirements as set by the Ministry of Education. The Board’s focus is to ensure the needs of all students and their achievement is paramount. An important distinction is made in that the Board delegates all authority and accountability for the day to day operational organisation of St Michael’s Catholic School to the Principal.
The Board roles are broken down into the following sub committees:
The St Michael’s School Board is comprised of four Proprietors representatives, five elected parent representatives, the Principal and a teacher representative. The Proprietors applications are submitted to Bishop Pat Dunn for selection. Parent representatives must be nominated by a member of the school, and voted on by the school parent community. Re elections for the Parent representative positions are held every three years. The teacher representative is nominated and elected by the staff of the school.
