Houses


In 2008 a ‘House’ system was introduced to foster stronger relationships between age groups of children.

There are 2 House Captains per House.

Cluny

Significance to St Michael's

The congregation of Sisters of Saint Joseph of Cluny was founded in 1807. St Michael’s has a close association with Cluny kindergarten.

Pompallier

Significance to St Michael's

Jean Baptiste Francios Pompallier arrived in NZ in 1838 and worked for 30 years bringing the Catholic faith to New Zealanders.

Patrick

Significance to St Michael's

St Patrick was born in Scotland in 385 AD and was taken to Ireland as a boy. He preached the gospel for over 40 years.

MacKillop

Significance to St Michael's

Mary MacKillop was an Australian nun and together with Father Woods founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.

The houses will cover all age groups of children with older children developing leadership skills through role modelling to, caring for our younger children. All children will be encouraged to strongly support their ‘House’. All children are assigned a house and siblings will share the same house.

Children are asked to please wear either a T-shirt or polar fleece of the appropriate colour and their St Michael’s sports shorts for sports events.

House Points

Service Points 

Points are awarded for house competitions which are linked to service, eg, Monte Cecilia Trust Easter Egg competition, Food Drive for St Vincent De Paul.

Sports Points

At each of the three major school sporting events (swimming, cross country & athletics) points are awarded.

 


Other Leadership Roles

Every Year 6 student who wants a leadership role starts with a written application.

 

Leadership Focus - Represent the whole school, speak at assemblies, and model school values.

MISSION: To drive spirit and teamwork.

FOCUS: Leading house singing, encouraging participation in sports and cultural challenges, and fostering House pride.

MISSION: To lead fun events and promote good vibes.

FOCUS: Planning student-led events (like mufti days/fundraisers) and promoting kindness, inclusion, and wellbeing.

 

Catholic Character Leaders

Leadership  Mission and Focus

MISSION: To be service-focused role models.

FOCUS: Supporting with Masses, prayer, and liturgies, and promoting the Mary MacKillop values throughout the school.

 

Manaaki Leaders

Manaaki Leaders - There are 4 Leaders

Leadership  Mission and Focus

MISSION: To ensure everyone feels safe and valued.

FOCUS: Supporting younger students' wellbeing at lunch, helping solve minor conflicts in the playground, and supporting all cultural events.

 

Library Leaders

MISSION: To create a community of readers.

FOCUS: Planning engaging library activities at lunchtime, promoting a love of reading, and ensuring good care of the books.

FOCUS: Supporting with visuals and technical needs for assemblies, Masses, and other school events.

What is the Process?

Application for Role Term 4

You will receive an application form for
the leadership roles. If you would like a
role you will need to apply.

Decision Process Term 4

All applications are due in Week 9
of Term 4. The SLT and Teachers
will make a decision on allocation
of leaders.

Announcement Term 1

All Leaders will be announced in
Term 1. You will receive a letter of
acceptance.
